The Prosper Independent School District contains more than 28,000 students. This school year at Prosper High started with a population of around 3,400 students. “If they hadn’t opened Walnut Grove, we would have had well over 4,400 this year, assistant Principal Dr. Lute Croy said. That was the main purpose, to alleviate the strain.

A new coffee shop in Prosper called Six Sips opened up on Dec. 18. It is run by three sisters and their husbands. Brittany McLeod, one of the sisters and Co-owner said she appreciates how the shop brings her family closer. I love being there, and I love that its something that I did with my sisters, McLeod said. Im just Im so proud of us (and) how far weve come.

Filled with signatures, a banner is displayed in Jaxson Littles hospital room. The banner includes the hashtag #littlestrong which became used by members around Prosper to show their support for Jaxson through social media. Jaxson is number five on Prospers junior varsity basketball team.

The graphic above showcases Laufey Lín Jónsdóttirs newest studio album Bewitched. This collection released on Sept. 8 and includes 14 songs. The instrumentation is much fuller, and the lyrics hit on a more personal level, junior Jake Radclife said in his attached review. Standing next to a display showcasing various herpetological items, Collections Manager Greg Pandelis guides senior Lauren Clayton on a tour of UTAs Amphibian and Reptile Diversity Research Center. Lining the hallway wall, the Talonettes’ door decoration presents a theme based on the Taylor Swift “Eras” tour. Every advisory class had the opportunity to decorate their doors in a music theme for the homecoming door decoration contest. One of the spirit days also allowed students to decorate in Taylor Swift outfits.

  • Visit  https://prosper.voting4schools.com/ to vote for your homecoming court king and queen. Voting opens Aug. 28 until Aug. 31. Homecoming court king and will be announced at the homecoming football game on Sept. 1 at Children’s Health Stadium at 7 p.m.
  • If you want to level down from an AP or Honors course, you must wait until the end of the six-week marking period. A form will be available for you to fill out. As a reminder, there are no elective changes. The only changes that can be made at this time are schedule corrections.
  • School pictures for 9th-11th graders and Seniors who are new to the school and need a school ID will be taken today, Monday, Aug. 28. A link to order will be given to students during the photo time. Retakes are in October.
  • Seniors have senior lunch this Thursday, Aug. 31. Seniors fill out your permission forms before Wednesday, Aug. 30 or you will not be released at 1:45 p.m. for lunch. Seniors who have early release periods do not have to return to school that day, but those who do have a 4th/8th period must return for class in time.
  • Students have Sept. 1-Sept. 4 off for Labor Day Break

  • The first Model UN club meeting is Aug. 28 before and after school in the LGI.
  • The first Street Legal club meeting is Aug. 28 after school in room 1264
  • The Prosper Engineering Team is hosting tryouts for their nationally competitive Prosper Drone Team the AeroTalons on Aug. 29 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Walnut Grove HS LGI. Almost any career path is represented, from business/marketing to video production to art. They are looking for all interests, technical and non-technical. In addition, they have the technical teams for Pilot, Fabrication, Electronics, Programming, and Mechanical events. Competitive Intelligence is one of the strongest capabilities, and the team wants to continue to develop the fantastic success they experienced this year. They are seeking students who will be the key to the success of the team in leadership, spirit of volunteerism and community while learning technical and non-technical skills.
  • Girls Computer Science Club will host an interest meeting on Aug. 30 after school in Room 1260.

  • Varsity Elite Boys finished 10th and Varsity Elite Girls finished 6th at the Southlake #1 Carroll invite
  • Senior Max Miller set a new school record with a time of 14:26 and finished first place
  • PHS Waterpolo won nine out of 14 games during the Prosper Classic tournament
  • PHS tennis beat Walnut Grove HS 14-5
  • Lady Eagles Volleyball ended the Volley Palooza tournament with a 6-3 record and won in the bronze bracket.

Eagle Brief: April 22 – 28
Running toward the ball, sophomore Ava Germany dribbles past her opponent. It felt great to make it to state, Germany said. The games leading up were all games that had people biting their nails. It came down to the last minute in every playoff game it felt like. I think the biggest challenge our team faced during state was confidence. Everyone believed in us to win we just had to believe in ourselves and even with the result we got I believe we could have been more confident.

Eagle Brief: April 8 – 14
After their competition, the girls robotics team celebrates advancing to state. They competed against 38 other teams. All three of the PISD robotics teams made it to the semi-finals with 5411 RoboTalons being the 4th seed alliance captains. They teamed up with 9105 TechnoTalons and came in 5th place. 9492 LadyTalons were chosen by the 7th seed alliance captain and came in 4th place.

Joined by the Prosper and Rock Hill varsity baseball teams, Jaxson Little stands on the PHS field. Prior to game time, the teams recognized Little and his journey. Both teams wore orange during pregame for both games, in honor of Little.

In Long Beach, California, ENN and EPG celebrate their awards at the Student Television Network National Convention. ENN received the Broadcast Excellence award for the first time ever. EPG received best drama film.

News Brief: End-of-year senior information, dates and more
Displayed on a white board is the goals written by members of the Mayors Youth Advisory Council. The committee meets monthly to share ideas with Mayor Bristol. During meetings, updates are shared by the mayor, and the students discuss hot topics to resolve youth relates issues.

In front of the lower house, a Relay for Life sign, made by the student council, promotes the event. The event will be hosted to raise money against cancer. The fundraiser will be on the PHS Turf and Track, on April 12 from 6 – 10 p.m.

In a circle, GT American Studies students look at the half-eclipsed sun as they lie on the practice turf. Teachers passed out protective eclipse glasses to students at the start of third period. It was definitely a cool experience, junior Jacob Piehl said. It was crazy seeing how quickly the moon came over the sun and how dark everything was. Seen in the photo, starting at the yellow shirt and working clockwise, are juniors Annabelle Nugent, Erica Smith, Savannah Westwick, Sarah Goddard, Lauren Owen, Jacob Piehl and Avery Parker.
Total eclipse brings students together to view once-in-a-lifetime event
Arms outstretched, junior Faith Tull and sophomore Brooklyn Reeves reach the climax of their performance. The pair performed I Know Where Ive Been from Hairspray. The song is basically about marching for freedom for black people and no more segregation, Tull said. Its really just the characters talking about how there is a plan, that there has been suffering, that there are things that they need to do and that they can do it together.

Kaya Miller, originally from Los Angeles, California, moved to Prosper, Texas in 2017. She attends Prosper High School as a senior. This is her third year on staff, and she is co-editor-in-chief of Eagle Nation Online and editor-in-chief of the print newspaper Eagle Nation Times. Miller is on the Prosper debate team as historian. She is also president of the Spanish Honor Society. Miller is also on the Dallas Rowing Club Juniors team. In her free time, she enjoys baking and playing guitar.

Juliana Cruz, a former native New Yorker, is a senior at Prosper High School.
