Jake Radcliffe, Podcast Director

Jake Radcliffe is a sophomore, and this is his second year as a staff member of Eagle Nation Online and his first year as podcast director. He is a member of the varsity mixed A Cappella choir and enjoys singing, reading, writing, playing video games and being outdoors. This year, Radcliffe plans to expand the podcast section to include a larger variety of topics and interests.

To prepare for their upcoming Honors French 2 assessment, sophomores Zane Pedersen, Cheralatan Saravanan, Ray Johnson, Nathaniel Ray and Raham Shinwari talk about their healthy and unhealthy habits in French. In the attached editorial, the Eagle Nation Online staff takes the stance that more than two years of foreign language classes need to be required in American public schools. I think that the lack of foreign language education leads us to be kind of ignorant to other cultures, Ray said. I want foreign languages to be more available at a much earlier age.

Hunched over their table, Art I students and freshmen Owen Powell, Hooper Harris, Karan Mandela and Harry Crystal draw self portraits for a project. In the attached editorial, the Eagle Nation Online staff takes the stance that artificial intelligence art generators hurt artists businesses. Artists are already losing business because of A.I. art generators, said sophomore Jake Radcliffe, who wrote this piece on behalf of the editorial board. Commissioning a piece of art from an artist can be expensive and time-consuming. On the other hand, using an A.I. to generate art is generally fairly cheap or free and almost instantaneous.

Presenting to members of Model UN, president of the club, sophomore Anisha Mandem teaches about conferences. The group held this first meeting of the year Aug. 29. I started Model UN because Ive always had an interest in world affairs and political issues, Mandem said. And, I thought it would be fun to get other students who were also interested in the same issues in a club together.

Above the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, sophomore Jake Radcliffe and sixth grader Julia Radcliffe zip over a verdant pine-oak forest. They visited the CLIMB Works Zipline Course in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to do something they had never done before. At first, I was pretty afraid of zip lining that high up, Jake said. But when we actually started going, I had lots of fun — especially when we went upside-down.

Sitting in his office, Principal John Burdett discusses plans for the day with Secretary Kim Winnubst. This year will be the last year for Burdett at Prosper, after being principal for five years. “Being with kids, just creating things, spaces and structures that can help students find their passion and pursue it, helping them grow and fulfill their purpose in life,” Burdett said. “That’s my favorite piece.”

In front of the cafeteria, seniors Sydney Thomas and Grace Hale showcase their booklets. Both earned full ride scholarships to Texas Christian University and plan to be roommates. I will be studying Strategic Communications with a minor in Political Science, Hale said. I want to help out with non-profit organizations and building a bridge between them and the government.

As part of fulfilling their mission to help younger students interested in STEM, freshman Sai Charan Tej Gadham Setty, sophomores Vidhubala Vasudevan, Shravya Chitturi, Rhea Chitturu and junior Anush Bansal watch as a Boyer Elementary student presents her science project. Members of STEMMA volunteered at the science fairs at Boyer and Rucker Elementary Schools on Mar. 2. We gained so much exposure and got to interact with amazing young minds, freshman Arushima Swaroop said. We got to ask questions and see them talk about science. We all gained experience, which we can take with us to other situations, like leadership and collaboration.”

As freshmen Niteshwar Dhillon and Dallin Hansen watch, junior Quincy Lambert protects her king from junior Lakshya Khurmi’s queen in a high intensity game of chess. Lambert would go on to turn a losing game into a winning game and secure a victory against Khurmi. “I definitely learned that chess is not an easy game,” Khurmi said. “It is not a simple game, and Quincy is very good at it.”

With her pink polka-dot party hat, social studies teacher Shelly Patterson celebrates a students birthday with her class. Isaac Galvans parents couldnt afford a party, so she threw him one herself. Patterson taught in the Rio Grande Valley for one year. “There’s a whole world at the very southern tip of Texas,” Patterson said. “In fact, a lot of people who go there, mostly it’s retirees that will move there, they call it Narnia because it’s just a whole other world.”

Freshman Jake Radcliffe drives his familys boat on Lake Bob Sandlin in East Texas. Radcliffe earned his boaters license when he was in seventh grade, and has been using it ever since. Sometimes I get scared and feel like Im going to crash, he said. But, overall, I really like boating. It can be really relaxing.
