Jake Radcliffe is a junior, and this is his third year as a staff member of Eagle Nation Online. This year, he will be serving as an Assistant Editor. He is a member of the A Cappella and Chamber choirs, the vice president of Mu Alpha Theta and the Asian Student Association and the historian of La Société Honoraire de Français. Outside of school, Radcliffe enjoys singing, reading, hanging out with friends, playing video games and being outdoors.

Caps in the air, senior Kaya Miller, center, celebrates the conclusion of the May 23 morning ceremony. PHS graduates, all 823, had their own favorite memories to share following the festivities, which had originally been scheduled for the evening prior, but inclement weather required a change. “My last football game season was definitely memorable. I always went with my three friends and we would make a whole tradition out of it,” Miller said. “We would get ready, go to the game and then go to either dinner at Texas Roadhouse or In-n-Out.”

At the Childrens Health Stadium Community Center, Kurt Smith from Colonial Williamsburg, an American history museum, speaks about freedom in America to the audience attending the Prosper Exchange. After his speech, Smith received questions from audience members. There are always two men in my head at any one moment, Smith said. Jefferson has taught me a great deal. I think he has provided for me a greater understanding of American policy of constitutional understanding what it means to be a citizen. I am a stronger citizen because of Thomas Jefferson.

In a circle, GT American Studies students look at the half-eclipsed sun as they lie on the practice turf. Teachers passed out protective eclipse glasses to students at the start of third period. It was definitely a cool experience, junior Jacob Piehl said. It was crazy seeing how quickly the moon came over the sun and how dark everything was. Arms outstretched, junior Faith Tull and sophomore Brooklyn Reeves reach the climax of their performance. The pair performed I Know Where Ive Been from Hairspray. The song is basically about marching for freedom for black people and no more segregation, Tull said. Its really just the characters talking about how there is a plan, that there has been suffering, that there are things that they need to do and that they can do it together.

Following choir director Crystal Chamberlains conducting, senior Jacob Morris, on the far right, sings the song Begin, My Soul with fellow chamber choir members juniors Landen Kellum, Brandon Rodriguez and Jake Radcliffe. Morris auditioned in the All-State audition process, qualified for the Tenor-Bass All-State choir and will perform with the ensemble at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio on Saturday. Im just really excited for the performance, Morris said. Its a sad thing to say, but it is kind of rare to be a part of a choir where everybody wants to be there. But, when you get to the area round, everybody is super talented and wants to be there.

At a United Sound rehearsal, violinist junior Edwin Varghese assists freshman Prahlad Vijayaraghavan in playing the cello. The United Sound program allows students with disabilities to be mentored by fellow students in fine arts. United Sound benefits our orchestra in a way that they can use a skill set they know to give back to the school community, Orchestra director Monika Bartley said. So, it works on leadership skills and communication skills because, with our United Sound students, the same type of communication doesnt always work, and you might have to explain it in a different way. It really makes our students think outside the box.

At the Battle of the Birds football game, senior drum major Arjun Chati conducts the Mighty Prosper Eagle Band during their performance of the PHS fight song. On Sept. 30, the band competed at the Plano East Marching Invitational and won 6A Grand Champions, the highest award a band could win at the competition. It was definitely a relief, senior Quinn Jones said. We had never been to this competition before, but we were all fairly confident that we would be able to win it. But, when we actually heard him say that we won, it was like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders because that meant that the two and a half months leading up to that was all worth it.

Leaning over the engine, senior Tyler Valencia checks under the hood of a 2002 Toyota Camry. Students in the Automotive Technologies classes work on different vehicles in PHSs garage. Being able to work on cars throughout the school day is an amazing way to learn, Valencia said. Anybody can read a book or watch a video on how to do the things we do, but getting to actually do it hands-on helps us see how a car functions when under different situations. And, since there are millions of different cars on the road, theres always something new to learn.

Artists are already losing business because of A.I. art generators, said sophomore Jake Radcliffe, who wrote this piece on behalf of the editorial board. Commissioning a piece of art from an artist can be expensive and time-consuming. On the other hand, using an A.I. to generate art is generally fairly cheap or free and almost instantaneous.

They visited the CLIMB Works Zipline Course in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to do something they had never done before. At first, I was pretty afraid of zip lining that high up, Jake said. Members of STEMMA volunteered at the science fairs at Boyer and Rucker Elementary Schools on Mar. 2. We gained so much exposure and got to interact with amazing young minds, freshman Arushima Swaroop said. We got to ask questions and see them talk about science. We all gained experience, which we can take with us to other situations, like leadership and collaboration.”

With her pink polka-dot party hat, social studies teacher Shelly Patterson celebrates a students birthday with her class. Isaac Galvans parents couldnt afford a party, so she threw him one herself. Patterson taught in the Rio Grande Valley for one year. “There’s a whole world at the very southern tip of Texas,” Patterson said. “In fact, a lot of people who go there, mostly it’s retirees that will move there, they call it Narnia because it’s just a whole other world.”

Freshman Jake Radcliffe drives his familys boat on Lake Bob Sandlin in East Texas. Radcliffe earned his boaters license when he was in seventh grade, and has been using it ever since. Sometimes I get scared and feel like Im going to crash, he said. But, overall, I really like boating. It can be really relaxing.
