As senior Sarah Goddard sits at the new student table in the cafeteria, she related with new students that had just moved from Ecuador. “There were a couple of kids who only spoke Spanish,“ Goddard said. “I’m fluent in Spanish, so I sat with them for multiple days, it was really nice to connect with these students.”

"While reflecting on these concerns, I found myself wondering which ones politicians should address," Wang said. "Sitting at my desk, I delve into the extent of many of the issues prominent in the U.S. today, leading me to believe that we should shift our focus toward the ongoing issues of the climate crisis, high healthcare costs and lax gun control policies."

As the jar becomes full of the scented beads, senior Mackenzie Steinbrecher maneuvers the beads around the jar. With the assistance of Life Skills class adviser Ashley Romac, Steinbrecher then places the jar in the oven. "My favorite part of the class is watching the kids grow," Romac said. "That is watching the kids become more independent."

Following choir director Crystal Chamberlain's conducting, senior Jacob Morris, on the far right, sings the song "Begin, My Soul" with fellow chamber choir members juniors Landen Kellum, Brandon Rodriguez and Jake Radcliffe. Morris auditioned in the All-State audition process, qualified for the Tenor-Bass All-State choir and will perform with the ensemble at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio on Saturday. "I'm just really excited for the performance," Morris said. "It's a sad thing to say, but it is kind of rare to be a part of a choir where everybody wants to be there. But, when you get to the area round, everybody is super talented and wants to be there."

As they work on Talon Tech project, seniors Nicholas Wood and Erica Fahrenthold create a nameplate with the 3D printer. SkillsUSA, one of the organizations here, trains students in the use of 3D printers and other equipment. “We’re expecting the SkillsUSA chapter to grow even larger this year once the word gets out – and members begin to invite their friends to join,” PHS sponsor Stephanie Riley said. “There's also all kinds of industry connections that students can make by being a part of Skills. They can find out more about the careers they want to go into. It looks great on a resume as well.”
