Eagle Brief: Sept. 11-17

In their Talonettes uniforms, sophomores Abigail McGregor and Katie Lynn stand with the band at the Rockwall football game. McGregor and Lynn sit and play with the band during the game but perform with the Talonettes during halftime. The Prosper football team lost this non-district matchup, 47-41.

  • If you would like to level down from your Honors course or your AP level course that has an on-level course, please pick up the form from the Upper or Lower house. Forms are Due Sept. 15. Please remember that we are not making any elective changes. The only schedule changes we are making are leveling down from an upper-level class.
  • Order your 2023-2024 yearbook now to receive a discounted promotion. The promotion will end Sept. 15.

Upcoming

  • Junior World Affairs Council will hold an interest meeting on September 14th in the LGI during the afternoon and Mr. Bells room in the morning. The first meeting will be held Sept. 21, and the next monthly meeting will be Oct. 12 – all in the LGI. Guest speakers discuss different topics from around the world!
  • On Sept. 9-10, Prosper Engineering Team will be hosting their first-ever FIRST Robotics Competition. Teams from across Texas and Oklahoma will be competing. Saturday will be the “Fight Like A Girl Tournament” and Sunday will be the “Texas Talon Throwdown.” FLAG is to promote girls in STEM and FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition). Both days will be at the RHHS Arena from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Admission is free. The Global CEO of FIRST Chris Moore and the CTO of FIRST Texas Eric J. van Gemeren will be in attendance. The team will also be collecting new and used LEGOs for their “Lego Your LEGO” campaign. The LEGOs will be donated to foster children in the DFW area. This will also be the debut of ProsperEngineering’s newest FRC team The LadyTalons!
  • The Prosper Engineering Team is hosting an electronic recycling program. Bring in your old phones to the Upper or Lower House! Be sure to reset your device before recycling. Instructions to reset can be found on the bins in the Upper and Lower Houses. Collection ends September 29.
  • Biomedical first introductory meeting is Sept. 12 at 4:15 in room #2247.

Uplifting

  • Varsity Elite Girls Cross Country got 1st place at the Mckinney Boyd Bronco Stampede XC Meet.
  • Varsity Elite Boys Cross Country finished 3rd place as a team with C. Max Miller (3rd) and Layne Sheely (12th) both earning medals at the Mckinney Boyd Bronco Stampede XC Meet.
  • Senior Jacob Wimberly competed in the USA Junior World Swim Championships this past week.

Kaya Miller, originally from Los Angeles, California, moved to Prosper, Texas in 2017. She attends Prosper High School as a senior. This is her third year on staff, and she is co-editor-in-chief of Eagle Nation Online and editor-in-chief of the print newspaper Eagle Nation Times. Miller is on the Prosper debate team as historian. She is also president of the Spanish Honor Society. Miller is also on the Dallas Rowing Club Juniors team. In her free time, she enjoys baking and playing guitar.
