News brief: Advisory brings back Eagle Time draft

Riley McConnell
As his name is announced, senior Parker Browning celebrates winning homecoming king with his mom Jennifer Browning. Browning won king with senior queen Brianna Marler. Browning is on the varsity football team and Marler is the captain of the Talonettes drill team. More homecoming photos will publish tomorrow, too.

  • If you want to level down from an AP or Honors course, you must wait until the end of the six-week marking period. A form will be available for you to fill out. As a reminder, there are no elective changes. The only changes that can be made at this time are schedule corrections.
  • Order your 2023-2024 yearbook now to receive a discounted promotion. The promotion will end Sept. 15.

News Brief

  • After a year off, advisory now allows teachers to draft students. Student can now visit teachers in their classrooms for tutorials or makeup work during advisory.
  • Students will receive an email at the beginning of each week outlining their draft requests for each day of the week.
  • Advisory teachers will be notified and will not count the student absent if their student is in a draft location.
  • There are subject priority days.
    • Mondays: Social Studies and fine arts
    • Tuesdays: English
    • Wednesdays: Science and world languages
    • Thursdays: Math
    • Fridays: CTE

Upcoming

  • Junior World Affairs Council will hold an interest meeting on September 14th in the LGI during the afternoon and Mr. Bells room in the morning. The first meeting will be held Sept. 21, and the next monthly meeting will be Oct. 12 – all in the LGI.
  • On Sept. 9-10 Prosper Engineering Team will be hosting their first-ever FIRST Robotics Competition. Teams from across Texas and Oklahoma will be competing. Saturday will be the “Fight Like A Girl Tournament” and Sunday will be the “Texas Talon Throwdown.” FLAG is to promote girls in STEM and FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition). Both days will be at the RHHS Arena from 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Admission is free. The Global CEO of FIRST Chris Moore and the CTO of FIRST Texas Eric J. van Gemeren will be in attendance. The team will also be collecting new and used LEGOs for their “Lego Your LEGO” campaign. The LEGOs will be donated to foster children in the DFW area. This will also be the debut of ProsperEngineering’s newest FRC team The LadyTalons!
  • Prosper FCA will host their next meeting Sept. 8 at 7:45 a.m. in Gym 2.

Kaya Miller, Co-Editor-in-Chief
Kaya Miller, originally from Los Angeles, California, moved to Prosper, Texas in 2017. She attends Prosper High School as a senior. This is her third year on staff, and she is co-editor-in-chief of Eagle Nation Online and editor-in-chief of the print newspaper Eagle Nation Times. Miller is on the Prosper debate team as historian. She is also president of the Spanish Honor Society. Miller is also on the Dallas Rowing Club Juniors team. In her free time, she enjoys baking and playing guitar.

Riley McConnell is a senior at Prosper High School and is the Chief Operating Officer for Eagle Nation Online. This is her third year on staff and is involved in the Football Operations Department, an organization she is a founding member of. She is also the head photographer for the school's baseball team, alongside pursuing her personal photography career.
