The Prosper Independent School District contains more than 28,000 students. This school year at Prosper High started with a population of around 3,400 students. “If they hadn’t opened Walnut Grove, we would have had well over 4,400 this year, assistant Principal Dr. Lute Croy said. That was the main purpose, to alleviate the strain.

A new coffee shop in Prosper called Six Sips opened up on Dec. 18. It is run by three sisters and their husbands. Brittany McLeod, one of the sisters and Co-owner said she appreciates how the shop brings her family closer. I love being there, and I love that its something that I did with my sisters, McLeod said. Im just Im so proud of us (and) how far weve come.

The graphic above showcases Laufey Lín Jónsdóttirs newest studio album Bewitched. This collection released on Sept. 8 and includes 14 songs. The instrumentation is much fuller, and the lyrics hit on a more personal level, junior Jake Radclife said in his attached review.   • The Prosper Eagles Competitive Shooting Team will hold its annual meeting for current and prospective members and their families on Tuesday, Aug. 29 at 6:30 p.m. in the Prosper High School LGI. If you are interested in continuing or becoming part of the club, please be sure to attend. If you have questions about the club, please see Mr. Atkinson or Mr. Craft.
  • The first DECA meetings will be Monday-Wednesday, Aug. 21-23 in room 1245 before school and in the LGI after school. DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe. Come meet the officers, gather information or join.
  • Interested in filming football? Email bcsmith@prosper-isd.net if you are interested and are a freshman or sophomore. Benefits include traveling with the team, team-issued gear, free food, access to technology such as drones, access to graphic design, social media and HUDL.

    SkillsUSA will have their first meeting on Monday, Aug. 28 at the Walnut Grove HS LGI from 5-6 p.m. Students will need to arrange their own transportation. If you have any questions see Ms. Riley in The Nest.
  • The Prosper Engineering Team will host an informational meeting Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. at the Walnut Grove High School LGI. They will be hosting tryouts for their nationally competitive Prosper Drone Team, the AeroTalons, on Aug. 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Walnut Grove High School LGI. In addition to drone team information, they will provide an application and information about the tryout process. Almost every career path is represented, from business/marketing to video production to art! They are looking for students with technical and non-technical interests. The Prosper Engineering Team also has the technical teams for Pilot, Fabrication, Electronics, Programming and Mechanical. Competitive Intelligence is one of our strongest capabilities and the team wants to build upon the fantastic success they experienced this year. They are seeking students that will be the key to the success of the team in leadership, spirit of volunteerism and community, while learning technical and non-technical skills.   • Congratulations to several Eagle Production Group students who got their films accepted to the Gold Coast International Film Festival Young Filmmaker Program in Long Island, New York! But even more exciting, is a documentary called “Do What You Love”, which  Zack Lindqvist made last year. The film was even pushed up to the full film festival! That means his high school film will be screened and judged alongside professional documentary filmmakers from all over the world. Good luck Zack and the other filmmakers with selections in the youth film festival!
  • The Prosper FFA Advisors are proud to announce that THE Prosper FFA received the prestigious Gold Emblem rating at the 95th annual Texas FFA State Convention held July 10-14. We are very proud of our members and all of the hard work they put into seeing their chapter succeed.

Eagle Brief: April 22 – 28
Running toward the ball, sophomore Ava Germany dribbles past her opponent. It felt great to make it to state, Germany said. The games leading up were all games that had people biting their nails. It came down to the last minute in every playoff game it felt like. I think the biggest challenge our team faced during state was confidence. Everyone believed in us to win we just had to believe in ourselves and even with the result we got I believe we could have been more confident.

Eagle Brief: April 8 – 14
After their competition, the girls robotics team celebrates advancing to state. They competed against 38 other teams. All three of the PISD robotics teams made it to the semi-finals with 5411 RoboTalons being the 4th seed alliance captains. They teamed up with 9105 TechnoTalons and came in 5th place. 9492 LadyTalons were chosen by the 7th seed alliance captain and came in 4th place.

Joined by the Prosper and Rock Hill varsity baseball teams, Jaxson Little stands on the PHS field. Prior to game time, the teams recognized Little and his journey. Both teams wore orange during pregame for both games, in honor of Little.

In Long Beach, California, ENN and EPG celebrate their awards at the Student Television Network National Convention. ENN received the Broadcast Excellence award for the first time ever. EPG received best drama film.

News Brief: End-of-year senior information, dates and more
Displayed on a white board is the goals written by members of the Mayors Youth Advisory Council. The committee meets monthly to share ideas with Mayor Bristol. During meetings, updates are shared by the mayor, and the students discuss hot topics to resolve youth relates issues.

In front of the lower house, a Relay for Life sign, made by the student council, promotes the event. The event will be hosted to raise money against cancer. The fundraiser will be on the PHS Turf and Track, on April 12 from 6 – 10 p.m.

In a circle, GT American Studies students look at the half-eclipsed sun as they lie on the practice turf. Teachers passed out protective eclipse glasses to students at the start of third period. It was definitely a cool experience, junior Jacob Piehl said. It was crazy seeing how quickly the moon came over the sun and how dark everything was. Seen in the photo, starting at the yellow shirt and working clockwise, are juniors Annabelle Nugent, Erica Smith, Savannah Westwick, Sarah Goddard, Lauren Owen, Jacob Piehl and Avery Parker.
Total eclipse brings students together to view once-in-a-lifetime event
Arms outstretched, junior Faith Tull and sophomore Brooklyn Reeves reach the climax of their performance. The pair performed I Know Where Ive Been from Hairspray. The song is basically about marching for freedom for black people and no more segregation, Tull said. Its really just the characters talking about how there is a plan, that there has been suffering, that there are things that they need to do and that they can do it together.

Kaya Miller, originally from Los Angeles, California, moved to Prosper, Texas in 2017. She attends Prosper High School as a senior. This is her third year on staff, and she is co-editor-in-chief of Eagle Nation Online and editor-in-chief of the print newspaper Eagle Nation Times. Miller is on the Prosper debate team as historian. She is also president of the Spanish Honor Society. Miller is also on the Dallas Rowing Club Juniors team. In her free time, she enjoys baking and playing guitar.

Anisha Mandem, Assistant Editor
Anisha is a junior, and this is her third year on ENO. She is currently an Assistant Editor and the Editorial Section Editor. Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, she moved to Texas at the end of 2021 and works for the newspaper as a writer and a videographer. She is also the founder and president of the non-profit NeuroNext Foundation, the PHS Model UN team, and is a part of SNHS. Outside of school, she enjoys playing the piano, running, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.
