As the hallway fills with students, multiple extracurricular groups are sent off to state and national level competitions. The send off on Monday, April 24 featured archery, students competing at state for VASE, FFA teams, and extracurricular athletics teams. Percussion students led the sendoff.

Last week SkillsUSA traveled to Corpus Christi to compete at the state competitions. Students competed in Additive Manufacturing and Medical Assisting, and prepared exhibits in 2D/3D Animated Short Film, Web Page Design, Engineering Design, and Health Sciences. The students all won State Superior Awards! Senior Elisa Arbaizas says she received inspiration for this state-qualifying piece, Golden Frames, by walking through an art museum. Looking through the lens of someone else walking the exhibit, Arbaiza wants to show her life from a different point of view. With this piece, I wanted to show how I’ve held onto past good memories and successes, comparing my present self to my past, Arbaiza said. The images are memories from my past, and I also emphasize the empty frames, representing the future. I have always referenced past good experiences and how they made me more scared of getting older and facing adulthood. With this painting, I wanted to show a personal struggle I have dealt with while allowing others to find relatability in my artwork. Photo by art teacher Jannette Church.

Senior qualifies twice for VASE state competition

Following the awards ceremony of the Winter Guard International (WGI) Tulsa competition, JV and varsity winter guard members take a group photo with their trophies. Teams performed their shows in the competition on March 4, with both trams advancing to finals. The JV placed 3rd in Scholastic Regional A and varsity placed 10th in Scholastic A. Starting soccer warmups, senior Pranav Yerram passes the ball to the next player. Yerram has been playing soccer for as long as he can remember, and he continues to use this sport as part of his inspiration for medicine. “I believe what we do as an organization at school and in the US will give hope and support to women that have breast cancer,” Yerram said. “I think this will help them push and strive to survive. Because at the end of the day our lives (are what) matter the most.”

The library sits in silence during second period when only a few students are inside getting books and studying.The Prosper High School library has 15,065 books on its shelves for Prospers students to enjoy. ...there is value to reading whatever a kid wants to read regardless of a books literary merit or accolades. Reading builds vocabulary, critical thinking skills, and improves writing, AP English IV teacher Kristin Beckham said.
