Eagle Brief March 16 – 23

Following the awards ceremony of the Winter Guard International (WGI) Tulsa competition, JV and varsity winter guard members take a group photo with their trophies. Teams performed their shows in the competition on March 4, with both trams advancing to finals. The JV placed 3rd in Scholastic Regional A and varsity placed 10th in Scholastic A.   • Prosper Theatre presents “Violet Sharp” by William Cameron for UIL OAP. The show took place March 15 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets were $5.
  • Junior World Affairs Council is selling hand-made Guatemalan bracelets during all lunches everyday next week. ALL PROCEEDS go to the Fatima Children’s Home in Guatemala. Last year JWAC donated $1000 to the home.
  • The 2024 summer student trip for Berlin, Prague, Krakow and Budapest interest meeting will be held on March 30th in the LGI. To RSVP click here for the meeting as there are limited spots.
  • March 17, St. Patrick’s Day: Wear green! Saint Patrick’s Day, or the Feast of Saint Patrick, is a cultural and religious celebration held on March 17, surrounding the death date of Saint Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland.
  • March 22, Ramadan: Observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection and community. Ramadan in 2023 is expected to fall on the evening of March 22. If this is the case, the 30-day annual fast will end on Friday, April 21, with the start of Eid Al-Fitr falling on the same day.
  • Starting March 20, wrestling tryouts will be held in the MPF.
  • NTHS students, submit your teacher nomination and complete the forms for the pin ceremony on google classroom. The deadline to be included in this year’s pin ceremony is Friday, March 17 at 4 p.m.! Please get your forms in ASAP.
  • The PHS Cybersecurity team is holding its orientation on Tuesday, March 28 from 4:15 to 4:45 p.m.

Uplifting

All nine qualifiers for the regional meet helped bring home the regional championship. Seven of the nine qualified for state: Trey Shirey, Peyton Hulett, Carter Bakewell, Leo Anguiano, Raleigh Jackson, Colin Freeman and Luke Johnson. Shirey and Hulett are both regional champions, and now hold the regional bench press record. Shirey and Jackson both won best deadlift for their respective light and heavy divisions. The state meet will be held March 25 in Abilene, Tx.

Last night, the Mayor of the Town of Prosper declared the month of March as Theatre in Our Schools Month! Annabelle Nugent reached out to the Mayor and Town Council, and presented Theatre In Our Schools.

Before spring break the PHS Orchestras participated in the UIL Concert and Sight-Reading competition.  All three of the PHS orchestras received the highest rating of a Superior for their stage performance and the highest rating of a Superior for their sight-reading performance.
