The Prosper Eagles and Rock Hill Blue Hawks will face off on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. for the first “Pride of Prosper” Homecoming game at the district’s Children’s Health Stadium after scoring a successful win against Plano East. Because the Blue Hawks moved up to the 6A division for this season due to UIL District alignments, the two schools created a name to hype this first-time match-up.
Last Friday, at Children’s Health Stadium, the Eagles took on the Plano East Panthers and emerged victorious with a score of 48-20. This match continued their win streak this season after taking a 68-31 win against McKinney Boyd, a 29-22 win against Westlake and a 45-27 win against Rockwall. The Eagles hold fifth in the 6A Region I District 5 rankings.
For the event, 500 free tickets were offered to Prosper students that were available at first-come, first-serve. The theme of the game was “not our first rodeo,” with student sections and the performers dressing up in western-style gear.
“Homecoming week is the best week of the year,” Principal Paige Trujillo said. “I’m so excited to watch our football team go out and do what they do, and I’m so excited to have all the community and all our students here to celebrate.”
Friday’s opponent, the Blue Hawks, sit in the fourth district position after taking a win last week against Plano West. Rock Hill will head into Friday’s game with a 2-2 record, and Prosper will come in with a 4-0 record.
The Eagles bring a strong defense that could work against these players, which may produce a high-scoring game with a successful outcome for the Eagles. This pairs well with the offensive side of the team, with the cohesive offense being led by senior quarterback Nathan Walker along with senior wide receivers Lathon Latiolais and Marcus McCoy.
“Offense did amazing,” Latiolais said. “I think we had 400 yards plus of total offense.”
No matter the outcome, the game is bound to be full of action for the first-ever matchup between the two.
