While standing by her groups informational stand, senior Isabelle Hughes, vice president of the Action for Climate Emergency (ACE) club, talks about the impact of climate change on herself and others. The club members, including Hughes, said they like being a part of a larger effort that goes beyond just the walls of PHS. (I have) a lot of personal experience with pollution, Hughes said. I’m an athlete, so running and breathing air affects my ability to perform.

Last week SkillsUSA traveled to Corpus Christi to compete at the state competitions. Students competed in Additive Manufacturing and Medical Assisting, and prepared exhibits in 2D/3D Animated Short Film, Web Page Design, Engineering Design, and Health Sciences. The students all won State Superior Awards! Left to right: freshman Allison Shao, sophomore Ashley Lane, senior Brielle Brown, sophomore Niva Malthankar, freshman Anish Moilla, sophomore Manish Sriram, junior Bryan Nam, sophomore Cheralatan Saravanan, sophomore Puranjay Prashanth, sophomore Braden Lopez, senior Rakshan Palanikumar and junior Shriyans Reddy Pendli.

Smith was inspired by Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Kate Middleton. I was looking for a classy business style, Smith said. I wanted this outfit to be something you could wear to a job interview or to some other semi-formal event.

This week, Earth Day takes place, as Prosper mother Tracey George waters her plants in her garden. Georges goal is to create a sustainable garden of native plants, with the ultimate aim of helping local wildlife thrive. My mom is always outside gardening or thinking about what she can add to the garden to attract bees, Georges daughter and sophomore Kalyani Rao said. I really think this is what Earth Day should be about- bringing people together who want to care for the planet and create a conscious safe space for our environments animals.

A tin can rests abandoned alongside a railroad track in Mckinney. The area holds garbage, including plastics and metals, scattered across it for lengths almost as long as a mile. According to the Balance smb, many day-to-day items can take a long time to decompose. For example, metals like those in a tin can can take 50 years to decompose. Aluminum can take up to 500 years, and plastics can take up to twice that amount of time - 1,000 years. “It upsets me, junior photojournalist Brian Bock said. Knowing the fact that some of the things humans use the most abundantly and frequently, are the same things that are destroying our planets environment the most.
