As she rests in front of her decorated room, first-year Prosper Independent Career Study teacher Carrie Behrens said she anticipates an exciting year ahead, full of opportunities. “I’m just really, really looking forward to having the experience that I get to share with all of you,” Behrens said. "I feel very honored to be able to work with these amazing students."

Film program speaks up on new travel policies

Founders of the Prosper fencing club, Daniel Adkins and Nathaniel Ray. They've already held their first meeting and others will be scheduled soon. “Fencing is important to me because it’s separate from other sports. We have this huge football mentality,” Ray said. “I consider fencing more of a martial arts sport, and I don’t see enough support for it, so I figured it’s cool.”

As senior Sarah Goddard sits at the new student table in the cafeteria, she related with new students that had just moved from Ecuador. “There were a couple of kids who only spoke Spanish,“ Goddard said. “I’m fluent in Spanish, so I sat with them for multiple days, it was really nice to connect with these students.”
Ambassador program helps with transition

Because she said she likes them colorful and bright, sophomore Kendall McLachlin surrounds herself with her Converses. Her collection began 10 years ago. "I like (my Chuck Taylors) to all be the same style, just different colors," McLachlin said. "So that's usually the (shoe) I go to."

This is Sepper's third year in the band and her second year on the dance team. "There are going to be hard things in life and you're not going to be able to do everything all the time. As she leads the class, choir director Crystal Chamberlain prepares to check in with her students. Chamberlain leads the choir program alongside director Tate Keen. This year, choir students will go on a trip to Fort Worth. Due to the new district travel policies, fine art programs can only travel out-of-state for trips that aren't for competition once every four years.

Principal Nick Jones enforced cellphone rules during his first year as PHS principal in 2022. Students are not allowed to use these devices during instructional periods unless they have accommodations. "The states that have already banned phones needed to purchase areas to hold cell phones," Jones said. "The two main types are large cell phone lockers where students place their cell phone in during the day or individual magnetic cell phone pouches that students use during the school day."

Taking a breath during the Alma Mater, junior Logan Thompson shuts his eyes and sings along to the music as the band plays. The game ended with a score of 42-16 and breaking Plano East's undefeated streak. The next game will be home against the Rock Hill Bluehawks at a game called "Battle Against the Birds," along with a Reynolds night, where eight-grade students in band from Reynolds can come to the game for free and interact with Prosper students in band and color guard.
One foot in front of the other, senior Erin Young stays ahead of the race. This year marks her fourth year with the cross country and track program. “What I enjoy most about running cross country is the thing that I love most – the people, the people make it the best, like just having your friends alongside you. Even for those hard moments and those hard runs, they help you push through,” Young said. “Even when you're like thinking, oh my gosh, this sucks. This is hard, they're going through the same thing with you. And it just makes a close knit environment. Everyone is so happy all the time. So like, cross country is a really nice and, super sweet environment.”
According to freshman Eli Deutsch, the Rangers' season is about to end, and they are not going to make the playoffs this season. "Their stats show they've played under expectations and lots have gone wrong for them this year," Deutsch said. While greeting students at lunch duty, Associate Principal Paige Trujillo welcomes students back to Prosper High School. This moment comes from Aug 13., the first day of classes. "I love seeing everybody's new shoes, but, on a more serious note, I just love the energy in the building," Trujillo said. "Mr. Jones and I are here all summer while people are gone, so the building feels kind of sad without everybody in it. So, the best thing is when teachers come back and all that energy, and then y'all come back, and that's even more energy. I truly love this job, and I love Prosper High School. So when everybody comes back, that's the best part – coming back to school."
Opinion

In the attached column, Wang discusses certain topics he thinks politicians should be focusing on, especially with the upcoming presidential election. "While reflecting on these concerns, I found myself wondering which ones politicians should address," Wang said. "Sitting at my desk, I delve into the extent of many of the issues prominent in the U.S. today, leading me to believe that we should shift our focus toward the ongoing issues of the climate crisis, high healthcare costs and lax gun control policies."
