As I reach the home stretch of my high school career, there are countless memories and blessings I have to look back on. Since moving to Prosper my freshman year, I am incredibly proud of how much I’ve come out of my shell, developed, and grown to love this town. From Friday Night Lights to lacrosse practices to my journalism experiences, Prosper High School has given me an incredible high school experience that I could never forget. Now, as I begin my college journey at the University of Texas at Austin, I will cherish every one of my memories from Prosper and carry with me the lessons I’ve learned.
Since I moved to Texas three months into freshman year, I did not have a personalized choice of classes to take. Therefore, I wasn’t able to begin newspaper classes til sophomore year, and broadcast classes (my main passion) til junior year. This worried me, especially knowing I wanted to pursue journalism post–high school. However, thanks to my outstanding journalism advisors, Mr. Hatch and Mrs. Roskens, I was able to get a full three years of experience on Eagle Nation Online and two years of Eagle Nation News. Additionally, I had the opportunity to work as the Sports Editor for ENO the past two years, which allowed me to focus on my biggest interest – sports! Whether I was on the sidelines taking photos, writing a column on the latest NBA or NFL news, or interviewing PHS athletes, I have loved every second of covering sports for ENO. In addition to my Sports Editor leadership role, this year I had the opportunity to be the Producer for Eagle Nation News, a role I never thought I could achieve. Being a top leader of the broadcast program has been nothing short of incredible, producing a live show every Friday, being on–air, and editing video packages weekly. My time with both the ENO and ENN teams has taught me so much about teamwork, leadership, and friendship, and I am proud to say I got to work with two of the best crews in Texas. Journalism has been my greatest passion throughout high school, and is truly what made my Prosper experience what it is today. Interviewing pushed me to meet more people, broadcasting live on–air motivated me to pursue a career in broadcast journalism, and writing allowed me to express my thoughts to a larger audience than I ever have. These programs have both prepared me and excited me for a future working in sports journalism, and I could not express more gratitude for the staff and advisors who have been by my side the entire way.
In addition to my teachers, I would also like to thank my family, friends, and teammates who have supported me at PHS. My family has never failed to support my dreams and pushed me to be the best student I could be, all while being my best friends, which I am beyond thankful for. Late nights bonding with my lacrosse teammates, vacations with friends and family, and enjoying every moment of my last holidays living at home this year have all shaped my senior year, and I will cherish these memories forever. These people have played a huge role in shaping my Prosper experience.
Now, turning the page as I look forward to my next chapter at the University of Texas at Austin, leaving Prosper behind won’t be easy. However, I’m beyond excited to step into this new stage of my life and begin something new. I’m ready to meet new people, tell more stories, and learn more about myself throughout the journey. I will forever be grateful for the people, memories, and experiences Prosper has given me, as they’ve left a lasting impression on my future and my heart.
