Waves rolling, sophomore Elizabeth Cohorn relaxes on the beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama during spring break. This was her first time going. “I had a great time in Gulf Shores,” Cohorn said. “It was very peaceful, and it was nice reading a book while hearing the ocean waves.”

  • Hope Squad is hosting its annual Hope Walk this Saturday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Children’s Health Stadium. Guest speakers include Trent Johnson and Tim Holt from Dude Perfect. Support Hope Squad and its mission to spread awareness about mental health.
  • The Talonette Drill Team will attend MA Nationals this weekend and compete in 12 dances – including solos. Wish them luck!
  • The UIL District Meet is this Friday at the Prosper Admin Building and this Saturday at Walnut Grove High School. Wish the competitors luck as well!
  • Now through April 4th, drop plastic bags in the HEB Recycling bin in the PHS Cafe to celebrate Earth Day! Bags include plastic shopping, produce, bread, newspaper, or dry-cleaning.

Uplifting

  • HOSA had its blood drive two weeks ago. They collected 101 pints of blood from a goal of 94 – potentially saving 303 lives.
  • Five Eagle Powerlifters competed at the THSWPA State Championship on Saturday in Abilene! Trey Shirey finished 3rd in the 123 lbs class.  This closes out an exceptional career at Prosper High School. He leaves with eight school records across two weight classes, four regional records, three regional championships, and is a three time state medalist. Jeremiah Dun finished 6th. Angelo Yeck, Nathan Bloem and Frank Upchurch also competed and hit personal records, and set school records at the state meet. Please congratulate these students if you see them!
  • Spring break has passed, and we are now in the 4th nine weeks! There are 60 days left till the first day of summer!

Eyes ahead, freshman Alysson Nwabueze approaches the finish line. The 800-meter run began at 1 p.m. The event was held at the Prosper High School Track and Field.
Eagle Brief: March 10 – 14
After competing at their last regional contest of the season, the Prosper High School Talonettes finished 1st overall for the entire competition. The Talonettes got first place for all of their 12 routines. Their last competition is March 28 & 29 where they will compete at Nationals.

Crowding together, players on the varsity baseball team speak to each other in between innings. In this game, there were 14 innings since it was a scrimmage. "I've been playing baseball since 5th grade," varsity player (add grade) Alejandro 'AJ' Sanabria said. "I like how competitive it is."

As students cheer, the Prosper wrestling team gets recognized before they head off to the state meet. The team competed over the weekend. Senior Jack Ringger took first runner up in the state meet.
Eagle Brief: Feb. 18 – 21
Under the lights, Isaiah Johnson returns to one of Trisha Weyenberg's classes since he graduated in 2017. He lives in Kansas City for his job and travels around the country to speak in classrooms. "Don't listen to people, because you can make money and be happy," Romeo said. "And, I could be an example of that. I do what I love." Another seperate article is coming out on Isaiah soon.

Arm extended, principal Nicholas Jones welcomes students to the 'Space Jam' pep rally. This was the last pep rally of the year. The event took place in the PHS Arena during advisory.

As she reflects on her time at Prosper High School, Sanchez sums up her teaching philosophy in one word: passion. “To be successful, to advance, to grow — you have to be passionate,” Sanchez said. “A passion for learning, for building relationships, for teaching others. Everything starts with passion.”
Fashioning a legacy
As the second semester kicks off, senior activities are approaching. More information about senior events are coming up in the next few months. Senior week will be on May 19 – 21 and the Graduation Ceremony will be May 22 at 7 p.m. in the Prosper ISD Children's Health Stadium.

Eagle Brief: Jan. 27 – 31
In the north parking lot, trash piles up every day. Sgt. Christopher Reeves took this photo as an example of the litter that continues to be in the school parking lots. "We're not talking about a cup here, a water bottle there," Reeves said. "We’re not talking about a straw wrapper. This is disgusting. It's horrible. I was actually astonished by the amount of trash."

As she steps foot in the cold, photographer Ava Ruhter peaks outside to the ground covered in snow. No cars drive as everything remains silent. “When it snows, it absorbs sound which makes it even more quiet outside,” Ruhter said. “It looks like it should be Christmas morning.”

Mandem enjoys spring break before she walks the stage at graduation on May 22. "It was nice to spend some time in nature and take some time away from school," Mandem said. "It was bittersweet remembering that it was my last high school spring break."

"My favorite thing about the Unified Track is the competition and how everyone gets hyped about it," York said. "We get to bond more with the kids, from just partners, you're kind of helping them, but this you get to participate too, and it's just a fun environment."

"Me and Heather Davis have advisory together, therefore, while I was reading this book, I got to look over at her now and then, and ask, 'why do you like this book so much?'" said Greaves. "And she just looked back at me like I was a complete weirdo and, you know, that just made my day."

Sophomore Elizabeth Cohorn can be found dancing as a line member of the Prosper Talonettes Drill Team, completing her annual goal of reading 150 books, baking, and listening to music. This is her first year working on Eagle Nation Online as a reporter, and joined ENO because of her passion for writing. Her love for writing started in third grade with her first short story titled “Kindness Counts” and as a member of the staff, she is most excited about writing feature articles.
