While Prosper volleyball may have left the playoff race last week, Kayla Martin, discusses her next games with superintendent Drew Watkins during the Wednesday, Nov. 14, signing party. Martin, a volleyball standout, signed to continue playing her sport with Northeastern University in Boston, Mass., when she goes to college next year. She is one of 14 athletes who took their college commitments public and attended the early morning signing party.

A group of 14 athletes plans to sign Wednesday, Nov. 14, at 7:30 a.m. in the arena to play their designated sports at the collegiate level.

All family and friends are welcome to attend and stay for a small reception following the ceremony.

Anytime you have kids get a chance to further their career and their education, you get a great feeling of accomplishment for them,” head baseball coach Rick Carpenter said. “I couldn’t be happier for them and their families who have been very instrumental along the way.

Some of these athletes have played their whole lives and some under different coaching. Yet, all of them are taking their high school experience to the next level.

“I can coach a brick wall the same way I coached them and not get much out of it,” Carpenter said. “They had to be willing to sacrifice to get the job done. It is all them.”

Head volleyball coach, Erin Kauffman said their work ethic and improvement has gotten these athletes as far as to play college level.

“I want them to have fun, stick to it and not quit, and leave their collegiate programs better than when they got there,” Kauffman said. “All five have a lot to give to their programs and I hope they are open minded to the college experience.”
