Counselors release scholarship list

A bulletin board in the main hallway advertises colleges and summer opportunities. The counselors released a list of local, school-specific, and nationwide scholarships. For more information about scholarships and college, visit the counselor’s office.

The attached list of local, school-specific, and national scholarships was created by the PHS Counselors. The scholarships are in order of closest deadline. Check for an updated list of scholarships at this link.

Solomon Page Scholarship

Type: Nationwide Scholarship

Amount: $1,000

Deadline: Nov. 30, 2020

Criteria: U.S. citizens accepted to or currently attending a college or university in the United States and pursuing a degree in business.

Collin College Foundation

Type: Local, School Specific Scholarship

Amount: Up to $1,250

Deadline: Jan. 7-March 31 (Juniors and Seniors)

Criteria: Do you have a 2.5 or higher GPA? Will you be taking at least 2 classes? If so, you may qualify for $1,250 scholarship to Collin College.

SMU — Hunt Leadership Scholars Program

Type: School Specific Scholarship

Amount: $42,000 per year + study abroad

Deadline: Jan. 15, 2019

Criteria:

  • Extraordinary Leadership demonstrated in High School
  • Awarded to 20-25 Freshmen each year
  • **SAT 1330 or ACT 29
  • **Top 25 percent of graduating class
  • **Strong college preparatory class load in high school

**These criteria are not required, but recommended and could be waived based on the achievements in first criteria

American University – Frederick Douglass Distinguished Scholars

Type: School Specific Scholarship

Amount: Full scholarship

Deadline: Jan. 15, 2019

Criteria:

  • Going to American University (Washington, D.C.)
  • SAT/ACT not required to submit application

Champlain College (Vermont) – Women in Technology Scholarship

Type: School Specific Scholarship

Amount: $40,000 ($10,000 per year)

Deadline: Jan. 15, 2019

Criteria: Women interested in pursuing an education in technology.

Texas Student Housing Authority

Type: Local Scholarship

Amount: Full or partial cost of an off-campus room

Deadline: Jan. 31, 2019

Criteria:

  • College must allow off-campus living as a Freshmen
  • College acceptance to a college in Austin, College Station, or Denton, TX
  • Family financial needs may be considered

Baylor University – Carr P. Collins Scholar Program

Type: School Specific Scholarship

Amount: $5,350 the first year, renewable for three additional years

Deadline: Jan. 31, 2019

Criteria:

  • Admitted to the University
  • Top Quarter of graduating class
  • Minimum 1310 SAT or 28 ACT

Type: Local Scholarship

Amount: $2,000 & $1,500

Deadline: Feb. 1, 2019

Criteria: Membership of FFA, get endorsement from Bob Tomes Ford by visiting the dealership in person, Scholarship notification mentioned that there would be nine scholarships awarded, all chosen from local schools

Amount: up to $5,000, many prizes available

Criteria:

  • Eighth grade- high school seniors
  • 500 – 800 word essay on ““What are essential qualities of a citizen in your community in 21st century America?”
