Student designers debut in end-of-year runway show

Fashion II class hosts hero, villain-themed fashion show

Looking at the crowd, junior Maya Waid models a pink princess-style dress by designer junior Anvi Bansal. The dress was Bansal's "Hero" look, inspired by "Sleeping Beauty's" Aurora. Waid walked down the red carpet with sophomore Brooklyn Reeves who wore a black dress inspired by Maleficent.

 

Students in Tiffany Caro Sanchez’s Fashion Design II class worked all year to design and create a collection of four looks. They each brainstormed, sketched, measured and sewed a look inspired by a both a hero and a villain, along with a “Red Carpet” look and a “Be You-nique” look meant to showcase their creativity and individual style. All their work finally came to life on May 15, when the PHS auditorium was transformed into a Hollywood-style red carpet for the models and designers to show off the finished looks. The designers took inspiration from films such as The Princess and the Frog, Snow White, Ponyo, Cruella, Hercules, Tangled, Sleeping Beauty, Mononoke, and Alice in Wonderland for their ‘hero’ and ‘villain’ looks.

After school, freshman Michelle Ayala interviews junior Elizabeth "Betty" Gacek. At just 17 years old, Gacek has already accomplished balancing her academics with having fluency in eight languages as well as overcoming a series of challenges with her dyslexia. Her life is split between two distinct countries and cultures. She spends her summers in Poland for schooling and the rest of her time in Texas. “In Poland, the culture is more serious," Gacek said. "If you smile, it can be perceived as being dumb or creepy. In Texas, it’s a more casual and friendly atmosphere where smiling and casual interactions are common.”

As Jennifer Delano strikes up a conversation with Tiffany Ballard, they discuss the upcoming details for the Toyota Symposium. A PCIS event where students get the opportunity to make connections, and speak with professionals. “During my first year at Prosper, I taught all the marketing classes,” Ballard said. "Later, I was asked to lead the PCIS program to increase its enrollment. When I first took over, we had only 11 students. Now, we have 400 across Prosper ISD."
From marketing at Sega to adviser
As they finish up their monthly meeting, sophomore Christine Kim guides students when creating cards. Kim faced some challenges when Cardz for Kidz started. "Figuring out the materials we needed when making cards and who's doing what to help with the club (created part of the challenge)." Kim said. "We collectively agreed on things in the end when we needed to make decisions."
Students create cards for kids in hospitals
While the audience watches, junior Boyd Mueller sings into a microphone. Mueller plays Hades. Prosper Theatre's "Hadestown: Teen Edition" was chosen to be performed at the Main Stage at the Texas Thespian State Festival in Grapevine. "Generally, Main Stage is a privilege almost exclusively given to private fine art schools," stage manager senior Annabelle Nugent said. "The fact that a public school like Prosper is getting Main Stage is fantastic. Simply, it means that we are at the level of schools who specifically draft for stuff like fine arts and singing and dancing ability, and it's really a compliment to our actors and our technicians."

Brush in hand, senior Emma Esposito paints her pumpkin at the October FFA meeting held on Oct. 21. Emma competes in horse evaluation – a CDE competition. "You see horses going around and people riding them, and you have to judge them, and they have a mock competition," Richmond said. "And basically your goal is to get as close to the real judge as you can."
Cultivating success: FFA members gain community in organization
Students start to see changes with their social media accounts. Instagram announced Sept. 17 it will add new restrictions for teenagers going into 2025. These restrictions include a new age verification policy, changes in privacy, protection from suspicious adults, new restrictions on content, parent supervision and notifications. Ready for questions, HOSA's information table about the blood drive stands organized outside of the cafeteria during lunch. The table will be out two weeks prior to the event. "During lunches, like any lunch you have, you just go up to that table and then they'll give you more information," said sophomore Maryam Alshawi, HOSA member. "And you can make an appointment."

Standing in green Malcom Hill continues his passion for football as a coach. This marks his second year working for Prosper High School. "I kind of fell in love with the sport in middle school," Hill said. "Played it throughout high school and up until college.”

As they discuss a dive, junior Kiera Williams listens to dive coach Eric Ognibene. Williams competes in varsity water polo, varsity swim and varsity dive. "You can't be scared and be a diver," Williams said. "You have to just do it."
Eagle Brief: Nov. 18 - 22
Performing as one, the Rock Hill Band plays in place of the Mighty Eagle Band on October 4th at Children's Health Stadium. The Rock Hill Pep Band will play stand tunes for the Prosper playoff game tonight. “Even with our friendly competition that all three schools have, we still want to make a clear message that all of Prosper ISD is still one,” Rock Hill drum major senior Maxwell Lee said. “Also, we understand the importance of Grand Nationals as a competition for the PHS band, so we want to support their trip and we wish them the best of luck.”

The Eagle Nation News team which usually gives viewers a 15-minute program with each episode of Season 11, instead this week covered the homecoming parade. Tess Gagliano is a Senior at Prosper High School and currently serves as an Executive Design Editor for Eagle Nation Online and Eagle Nation Times. Anisha Mandem, Eagle Nation Times Editor-in-Chief
Anisha is a senior, and this is her fourth year on ENO. She is the Editor-in-Chief for Eagle Nation Times.  Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, she moved to Texas at the end of 2021 and leads the newspaper as a writer, editor, videographer, photographer, and podcaster. She is also the founder and president of the non-profit NeuroNext Foundation and the PHS Model UN team and is a part of SNHS. Outside of school, she enjoys playing the piano, running, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Erica Deutsch, Multimedia Editor-in-Chief
Senior Erica Deutsch leads the Multi-Media section of the newspaper. This is her third year working for Eagle Nation Online. She adores photography and hopes to create a positive impact with her writing and podcasts. She is excited to publish video packages and continue sharing the powerful stories of others. Outside of school, she enjoys playing guitar, watching movies, trying new baking recipes, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
