Book Review: ‘November 9’ details challenging relationships, self-confidence and destiny
Book Summary:
Ready to depart on her big move to New York, Fallon, an aspiring actor, meets with her father. What Fallon expects to be a peaceful day will soon change direction, when she crosses paths with an appealing stranger at the restaurant. Across the restaurant is none other than Ben Kessler, a writer. His attraction to her is no secret – from the second he lays eyes on her. What starts off as an innocent goal to make the most of the day, turns into a five-year plan to never be without the other.
This exciting plot belongs to the book ‘November 9’ by Colleen Hoover, originally published Nov. 10, 2015, which illustrates the unforgettable love story between a writer and his unexpected muse, Fallon.
To reach their full potential, Fallon and Ben decide to never see each other again, until Nov. 9. Each year for exactly 24 hours, the two will meet at a designated location and share what they have accomplished in their time apart.
Fallon remains tasked with auditioning for acting roles until she makes her way to Broadway. With this job, she starts to gain back her confidence and discovers her true passion.
Ben takes an assignment to write a book about the unique aspects of their relationship. With this task, he finds his voice as a writer and a love for romance novels.
Each year brings a great or tragic event that will either bring them together – or push Ben and Fallon apart.
This book provided a conflicting ending for me. The choice Fallon made at the end not only made me happy but had me questioning the reason behind her choice.
If it wasn’t for Ben’s courageous actions and dedication to obtain Fallon’s affection, I would have wanted Fallon to choose herself over their relationship.
My favorite aspect of the story was it only covered one day of the whole year. No in-between days filled the pages. This book went straight to the point, and I loved how you could feel the character development in each new chapter.
Another great aspect of this book included the surprise character popup from Colleen Hoover’s book ‘Ugly Love.” An outside look into the current life from the other book created excitement.
This twist in this book may have been the biggest twist I have ever read. It was so unexpected that I had to put the book down for a second.
In the end, Colleen Hoover gives her readers a book that questions the relationship between love and trust, helping the reader reconsider and better understand the relationships in their lives.
