McKinney announced last week that they moved graduation from the Prestonwood Baptist Church (PBC) to the Allen Event Centre. They have had this ceremony at the PBC for over a decade.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the decision came after community members expressed concern towards the “presence of religion at some schools and district events.” Community members have also rallied at McKinney ISD’s school board meetings over the separation of church and state.

Pastor Jack Graham tweeted that it was Prestonwood’s refusal to remove the cross from view that created this “cowardly decision.” The Dallas Morning News said that the church’s officials did not return calls for comment.

The McKinney High School principals have also offered to reprint invitations or graduation announcements for free.

Prosper administrators have no comment on whether or not the school will follow McKinney.
