Displayed on a desk in the journalism news room, the UIL journalism district champion trophy sits with other UIL medals from this year. UIL academic teams competed on Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27. As of right now, Prosper will win the district championship.

Natalie Merrills second tattoo was inspired by her time spent in California. Its one of my life goals to be brave because I think oftentimes people dont take chances or dont do things because theyre afraid of what could happen or theyre afraid of failing, but at the end of the day, Merrill said. You have to take risks because you wont accomplish the things you want to accomplish. The audio video teacher said the phrase be brave came from a bracelet she owned.

University Interscholastic League plaques represent the goal of academic competitors. Now, the schools academic teams are gearing up for another season. Several competitors plan to attend an academic activities conference Sept. 22 at the University of Texas in Arlington to begin sharpening their skills for upcoming competitions. The journalism team earned the plaque shown here on March 28 at last springs district meet. “We are open to everyone,” UIL coordinator Elise Calhoun said. “However much experience or knowledge you have, it doesn’t matter, we will help you get to where you need to be.”
