Events of 9/11 leave lasting effects even 24 years later

PHS students continue to learn, remember

As displayed by the graphic, people in America continue to remember the tragedy on Sept. 11, 2001. That day marked the death of 2,996 people and the bonding of millions of Americans. Today, schools all around the world remember and mourn the events of 9/11.

Looking at one of her students as they speak, Delaney Alford sits next to freshman Saanvi Vipin during their Hope Squad period. During this class, the group played the game ‘imposter’ to bond. “I think Hope Squad is such a good class and such a good program to not only teach [mental health awareness] to the kids that are in the class, but also to push that out to any and everybody else,” Alford said. “What better way for people to hear about it than from their peers?”

Demonstrating a step on how to build a water barrel, Texas Water Resources Institute Program Specialist Dean Minchillo leads the Barrel Up workshop that was held at the Prosper library on Oct. 6. Rain barrels are used to capture rainwater for households to use towards watering gardens and rinsing tools. A raffle was held in which the winner got to take home a rain barrel that was made during the workshop.
