After spinning the new “genre wheel,” freshman Polly Greaves chose “The Downstairs Girl” by Stacey Lee for historical fiction. The book discusses gender and racial segregation, touching on identity and social class themes, where power equals worth. Freshman Heather Davis spun the wheel and got dystopian for their next genre.

Sitting around the podcast station, RoboTalons discuss their upcoming competition to New Mexico. This past weekend, the Prosper FRC Robotics teams 5411 RoboTalons traveled to Plano, TX to compete against 28 other teams. For the past nine weeks, the Talons worked through the entire engineering process to create an advanced control system from scratch.

The districts tournament is coming up on Saturday. "The world's tallest woman Rumeysa Gelgi meets the world's shortest, Jyoti Amge," said Rana. "I actually heard about this news on social media."

Freshman Polly Greaves renovated this graphic for their new episode on Canva. The book they read this episode is "Five Survive" by Holly Jackson. "Me and Heather Davis have advisory together, therefore, while I was reading this book, I got to look over at her now and then, and ask, 'why do you like this book so much?'" said Greaves. "And she just looked back at me like I was a complete weirdo and, you know, that just made my day."

With an influx of mass deportations and Australian wildfires, juniors Trisha Panicker and Aarushi Rana analyze how the toll of these events. "Controversy has been sparked by this issue (mass deportations) with as many as 18 states, including California, New Jersey, and Massachusetts, filing lawsuits claiming the order violates the U.S. Constitution," Panicker said. "The wait is until Feb. 6 to decide if this is permanent or not."

Passing out candy and stickers to the community are kids from Boyer Elementary at the Hope Walk Event. The event was held on March 29. The community came to walk around the Children's Health Stadium while various Hope Squad groups spread positivity and awareness for suicide prevention.

"Getting to design articles and graphics, watching them come to life, and seeing people reading and learning from them is what inspires me to keep pushing and going forward," Ali said. "There's just something so rewarding about seeing a piece of work you put so much time and love into become a focal point that impacts others."

The Final March Madness games, the Championship Round will take place April 7. Florida will compete against Auburn on April 5 and Duke will compete against Houston in the Final Four. Senior Erica Deutsch predicts who will make it to the Championships.

Their regional meet is on April 16-17. "We lost a little ground on the back nine," Ryan Salinas said, "but we played the last five holes very, very solid and could not be more proud of the boys and of our competitiveness."
Sports Brief: Boys golf place 2nd in district, qualify for regionals
Standing behind the podium, Parks Administration Assistant Director Kurt Beilharz presents the Doe Branch Park Master Plan to the Parks and Recreation Committee. Doe Branch is currently in its design stage and is waiting to be approved by the town council. "First we want to identify a design consultant, and we usually hire architecture and engineering firms or landscape architecture firms," Beilharz said. "We get a firm on board, and then we look for public input. Once we have their input, then we put together what's called a concept plan."

Born in Lenham, England, freshman Polly Greaves has called 14 other places home and recently arrived in Prosper, Texas, ready to dive into the pool and pursue water polo. During the day, you can find her writing a new book, practicing her Spanish or playing the piano. Polly is stoked to start her first year of high school. She is looking forward to the variety of courses offered at Prosper high school, to give her more opportunities to follow her passions and interests.

Heather Davis, Reporter
Freshman Heather Davis is a swimmer and a player on the Prosper High School swim and water polo teams. Born in Georgia, she has moved to six different places until she moved here permanently. She loves writing and journalism, as well as photography. In fact, she hopes to enter into a couple of photography contests this year. She also likes poetry, and won an Honorable Mention award at the Collin County Poetry Contest in 2023. She is excited to finally start high school, and see how she can hone her writing and photography skills this year.
