Ready to serve, Key Club president senior Reva Pandey starts the year with the first meeting Sept. 25. Key Club members said they welcome all students at Prosper to build character, leadership and serve the community.
“As the president, I organize and plan our community service events and our opportunities for the club,” Pandey said. “I manage the other officers, make sure everything is on task and communicate with Mr. (Francisco) Salas to make sure we’re on the same page and have everything planned and ready.”
This is Pandey’s third year in the club. She’s served multiple leadership roles including secretary and now president.
“Key Club is a community-service-based club, which provides students the opportunity to actively support Prosper ISD,” Pandey said. “Surrounding communities participate and engage through community service activities.”
Students in the club volunteer at hospitals, schools and around Prosper.
“One of our goals that we accomplished last year was just really getting the club on its feet,” Pandey said. “It’s a fairly new club, and I feel like last year we really got more active members and made a name for ourselves.”
Members established the Prosper chapter three years ago.
“Usually we will first start with a little slideshow that introduces what has happened, what will be happening within the club, and then, if there is an hour opportunity, we’ll move into our hour opportunity,” Pandey said. “For example, last year, after our meeting, we wrote little notes for teachers to put on their doors.”
Besides Pandey’s role as president of Key Club, she is the president of Talonettes.
“I just really like to serve my community and do community service,” Pandey said. “I just love that it gives me more opportunities to do that.”
Francisco Salas is the sponsor for Key Club, and he’s also in charge of Student Council.
“I work with Mr. Salas to manage the club,” Pandey said. “We work together by coordinating dates and hour opportunities, budget, supplies and anything else that we might need assistance in when planning our activities.”
Key Club meets once a month in Room 3202 in the Learning Cottages.
“What I’m most excited for today’s meeting is just to introduce ourselves to the new club members,” Pandey said. “I feel like we have a lot more members, and we’re a lot more prepared for the year.”
Pandey is also involved in Student Council and volunteers for many events like the gift exchange baskets at the football games.
“I think that I’m just excited to have everything in place and have this year started,” Pandey said. “We have a lot of activities and projects planned.”
Pandey works alongside the secretary of Key Club, senior Ella Hensley, to plan activities and organize events.
“Basically, I help Reva, the president, with anything she needs,” Hensley said. “I help make the slides. I manage the members hours and then come up with community-service projects.”
Hensley has been part of the organization for three years.
“I’m most excited for helping the community because this year we’re trying to make Key Club bigger, so I’m excited to do community service projects,” Hensley said. “We make blankets for children’s hospitals. We’re gonna go to some parks and clean up trash around the school and stadium and do food drives.”
Besides Key Club, Hensley said she also supports her community through Student Council and Talonettes.
“I want to be more involved with the community,” Hensley said. “Especially because this is only the third year Key Club has existed, so, just to be more involved in the community, and continue growing the program at Prosper High School.”
