Preview: Football takes on South Grand Prairie
November 18, 2022
Following a successful bi-district game against Plano Senior, the Prosper Eagles now look to play the South Grand Prairie Warriors for the second round of state playoffs. Friday’s game resulted in a Prosper win of 28-3 for the Eagles, ending their opponent’s 2022 season.

Last Friday, the Eagles won at home against Plano Senior, 28-3. In honor of Veteran’s Day, the team decorated the helmets with stickers of the six branches of the United States military. After beating the Wildcats, the Prosper Eagles continued their eight-game winning streak, losing only to the Denton Guyer Wildcats in the beginning of the season.
“(They’ve been) working really hard since last week’s game,” assistant coach Chase Petersen said. “Preparing mentally and physically, correcting our errors, and cleaning things up for this next game.”

The two teams last faced off Thursday Aug. 26, 2022 during the pre-season. The match-up resulted in a 34-19 win for the Eagles, who went on to have a 9-5 2021 seasonal record. South Grand Prairie had a successful 7-4 season last year.
“(We focused on helping) our kids understand the game plan.” assistant coach Devin Lemons said. “Now when we see it defensively, it becomes a reaction and not just something we have to think about.”
Going into this game, both teams needed to sharpen skills on both sides of the ball. Prosper’s coaches focused on doing so and commented on the improvements the athletes have made.
“We had a higher intensity level of practice this week,” offensive coordinator Tyler Moore said. “We are more focused on our preparation – fixing our eyes, fixing our feet.
According to MaxPreps, Prosper is currently ranked 9th in the state, with South Grand Prairie sitting 93rd. With Prosper sitting with a 10-1 record and South Grand Prairie with a 6-5 record, the match-up is destined to be an exciting game for both teams, along with fans and viewers.
