Qualification for National Honor Society set
December 14, 2017
National Honor Society (NHS) both encourages students to become more active in their community and awards them for their commitment to academics, service, and leadership.
“The purpose is to celebrate and honor the students who excel in scholarship, character, leadership, and service,” Carrie Stephens, one of the organization’s sponsors, said. “We help with service projects around the community, and we try to serve as leaders in both the community and the school.”
The organization does have several requirements to become an active member in the club.
“To be academically eligible you have to have at least a 4.44 GPA out of six, which is the new weighted score here, and you have to be enrolled in two or more weighted classes which is, Pre-AP, AP, or dual credit,” Stephens said. “The fall semester we invite juniors and seniors only and the spring semester is sophomores, juniors, and seniors.”
For more information contact the sponsors and officers of the program.
“Myself and Mr. Roger Segars are the sponsors,” Stephens said. “Megan Cummings is the president, Cole Choe is the vice president, and Emily Ray is the secretary.”
