All-way stops installed on Frontier Parkway

Peyton Jefferson

Two new four way stops were implemented over the summer on Frontier Parkway. However, the end goal of the project was to introduce two new traffic signals.

“We contacted the Texas Department of Public Safety and asked them to do warrant studies,” said Harlan Jefferson, the town manager of Prosper, “So our goal is to have the state install traffic signals at Frontier Parkway and Coit and also Frontier Parkway and Custer.”

The next step after the warrant studies (which is when the state evaluates whether or not a signal is warranted) is to install the all-way stop signs.

“They did meet warrant,”  Jefferson said. “So the first step is to install the all-way stop signs, and then in early 2018 they are going to install the traffic signals.”

However, there have recently been several accidents on Frontier since the beginning of school has started.

“We think some people are having trouble recognizing the all-way stop installations,” Jefferson said. “That’s why they put in traffic signs and digital warning signs and so forth.”

The town is also trying to spread the word of the new stop signs in order to prevent more accidents from occurring on the road.

“What we’re doing is trying to use social media as well as the routine press to notify residents of the change,” Jefferson said. “We’ve been doing that for over a month, and we think that over time people are going to adjust to those.”
