Obsidian- A Book Review
September 30, 2019
Book Summary
Katy and her mom move to West Virginia in hopes for a better and happier life. They want to start over after Katy’s dad tragically dies from cancer. Moving can suck, especially in the middle of high school. New home, new friends, new town and suddenly the idea of change doesn’t sit well with Katy. Until she meets her new neighbor, Daemon Black.
He is flawless, gorgeous and alluring. Everything about him seems perfect, but then he opens his mouth.
Katy and Daemon are not friends, and they will never be friends. Daemon makes that extremely clear the first time they meet. He is rude, arrogant, and cocky, but Katy won’t take any of it. She is determined to stay as far away as possible from Daemon Black. But, that may be difficult when Daemon literally freezes time to save her, which puts a supernatural bond between them.
The bond is dangerous. It links Katy to Daemon. And, Daemon is being sought after by a powerful army.
Katy is full of questions, but her biggest concern is, what is Daemon Black?
Personal Opinion
Katy and Daemon’s relationship is frustrating. That’s the first thing I have to say about this book. It is a constant battle between them, and I found myself waiting and waiting for something to happen. But, as frustrating and as confusing as their relationship was, I felt like that was also one of the things I loved about this book. They are both such real characters, and the connection between them is realistic.
Romance aside, Obsidian is full of thrill and suspense. I think this book actually has way more action than romance.
One aspect of Obsidian that I loved was that it could always make me laugh and smile. No matter how frustrating things could get, Katy and Daemon always knew how to make the best out of their challenges. I loved Daemon Black’s character. He is the typical good-looking bad boy with an attitude. I despised Daemon when I first met him in the book, but he quickly became my favorite character to read about. His outgoing, sarcastic and funny personality kept me wanting to know more about the mysterious Daemon Black.
Katy Swartz is one of my favorite female characters out of all the books I have read because of how relatable and normal she is. A great deal of female characters in other books I have read, are described as exotic and gorgeous beyond belief with an amazing personality. So, it is nice to read a book with a normal teenage girl that is realistic.
Overall, this book will keep you entertained. From the first to last page, there is continual romance, action and thrill.
This book is currently not in the Prosper High School Library, but it can be found at any local bookstores and also online.
