Sports brief: Girls golf win district, move on to regionals

Prosper Eagles break school record, shooting 615 for 2 days

As senior Kendall Simms holds the girls golf team’s first place district plaque, senior Sophia Duque, sophomore London Pearson, Principal Nick Jones, sophomore Tatum Churchman and junior Erica Lee come together. The team will compete at the Golf Regionals Tournament April 14-17. “It was a very intense day,” golf coach Tyler Pearson said. “The girls handled the emotions and pressure unbelievably well.”

With a lead of 38 shots, the girls golf team won the UIL District 6-6A Tournament Wednesday, March 26, breaking the school record by shooting 615 across the two days of the tournament.

This is the third year in a row that Prosper has won the 6A District Tournament.

Sophomore Tatum Churchman won the individual title by shooting 69 on the second day of the tournament.

According to golf coach Tyler Pearson, the varsity girls finished with the following results:

  • Sophomore Tatum Churchman shot 75 and 69, taking 1st.
  • Senior Kendall Simms shot 77 and 75 , taking 4th.
  • Junior Erica Lee shot 75 and 77, taking 4th.
  • Sophomore London Pearson shot 83 and 84, taking 13th.
  • Senior Sophia Duque shot 105 and 101, taking 52nd.

“It was a very intense day,” Pearson said. “The girls handled the emotions and pressure unbelievably well.”

The team will compete at the Golf Regionals Tournament April 14-17.

Freshman navigates drill team, Hope Squad, academics

"My favorite thing about the Unified Track is the competition and how everyone gets hyped about it," York said. "We get to bond more with the kids, from just partners, you're kind of helping them, but this you get to participate too, and it's just a fun environment."

His pre-game ritual is chewing green or white gum, and his favorite athlete is Bryce Harper. The varsity team will play against Quinton Creek this Thursday, Feb. 27, at the Prosper High School Baseball field. The game will start at 3:30 p.m.

Born in Lenham, England, freshman Polly Greaves has called 14 other places home and recently arrived in Prosper, Texas, ready to dive into the pool and pursue water polo. During the day, you can find her writing a new book, practicing her Spanish or playing the piano. Polly is stoked to start her first year of high school. She is looking forward to the variety of courses offered at Prosper high school, to give her more opportunities to follow her passions and interests.
Jake Radcliffe
Jake Radcliffe, Chief Executive Officer
Chief Executive Officer senior Jake Radcliffe leads the newspaper to success through writing and teamwork. This marks his third year as a staff member of Eagle Nation Online. Radcliffe is also a member of the Chamber and A Cappella choirs and the vice president of the Asian Student Association. Outside of school, he enjoys singing, reading, hanging out with friends, playing video games and being outdoors. This year, Radcliffe aims to expand ENO and ENT’s marketing, grow his journalistic skills and prepare the staff for next year when he won’t be here.

Mark Carbajal, Web Designer
Mark Carbajal is a sophomore at Prosper High School. He is entering his first year on Eagle Nation Online as a website designer, with hopes of becoming a professional graphic designer in the future. Other than design, his passions include music production, marching band, and video editing. Mark has contributed his efforts towards getting ENO’s Site Excellence badge, along with keeping the site fresh every day.
