The first month of the basketball season has flown by for the Prosper Eagles. The varsity boys team is currently 13-2, ranking second in district, while the varsity girls team holds an 11-6 record, placing them first in the district.

Both teams are set to play cross-town rival Rock Hill High School on Friday, Dec. 6. The Lady Eagles will tip off the night at 5:30 p.m., and the boys will play at 7 p.m. Friday’s matchups will have an “orange out” theme in dedication to Jaxson Little and his fight against Leukemia.

“My goals for the Rock Hill game are to start and maintain high energy on and off the court,” senior Jameson Swords said. “As well as shut down their best player.”

The Ladies are coming off of a two-game win streak heading into Friday. Their most recent win was against state-ranked district opponent Plano East with a final score of 58-35. Senior Kendall Mosley put up 21 points in this matchup, advancing the team to become undefeated in district play.

“Our goal for this Friday is to come out and send a message to them from the very beginning,” Mosley said. “We want to show them that we are who we say we are.”

Swords is committed to play Division I lacrosse at the University of Florida, and Mosley is committed to play Division I basketball at San Diego State University.

“Our practices are always high intensity, so this week we have been making our practices harder than games. Once we get into the game it’s easy,” Swords said. “To prepare, we’ll watch film and focus on what we need to do to win certain offenses and defenses.”

The Lady Eagles are currently ranked 35th in Texas, while Rock Hill sits at 156th. The Blue Hawks are 9-4 and are running into Friday’s game on a one-game win streak.

“To prepare for this game, we will watch film on both them and us to see what they do and what we need to work on,” Mosley said. “During practices, we will focus on the details that will separate us in the game, and work on our execution.”

The Blue Hawks boys team sits at 4-6 and will be looking for redemption against the Eagles after falling short of their last two games. The boys team faced the Blue Hawks Nov. 15, securing the win 62-59. The Prosper Boys Varsity team is led by head coach Scott Imes.

“In our first game against Rock Hill, we shot the ball really well from both the field and the three,” Imes said. “We also got ourselves to the free throw line 21 times. This is an area of emphasis for our team, and, if we continue to do this well, our team will continue to have success.”

Coming off of a tight 57-55 win against the reigning 6A state champions, the Plano East Panthers, the Eagles will be fired up entering tonight’s contest.

“We need to sure some things up defensively as we move forward,” Imes said. “But our team is making progress everyday to continue to get better.”
