“Trust the process.”
According to head defensive coordinator Chase Petersen, this statement represents one of the core of the Prosper Eagle football team that led them to their 8-3 season, placing second in the district. Their season ended in the first round of the playoffs to the Coppell Cowboys with a score of 35–37.
“It was a good game,” Petersen said. “It obviously didn’t end how we wanted, but we still played really well. We played great in the first half, but it didn’t go how we planned in the second.”
Week 1
The Eagles faced the Westlake Chaparrals at Baylor University’s McLane Stadium in Waco, Texas. They lost 35–14, so although it wasn’t how the players wanted to start the season, they would make a comeback in the next week.
Week 2
During week two, the Eagles played the Rockwall-Heath Hawks at Children’s Health Stadium. They secured a win with a score of 49–18.
“My personal best performance was probably during the Rockwall-Heath game,” running back junior Leo Anguiano said. “(We) ended that game really well, put up a bunch of points.”
Week 3
In the third week of their season, the Eagles were up against the McKinney Boyd Broncos, playing once again at Children’s Health Stadium. They ended this game with another win, the score being 55–17. This was the Eagles’ second highest scoring game of the season.
Week 4
In week four, Prosper faced the Plano East Panthers. Prosper ended the night victorious with a score of 42–16, continuing its winning streak to three weeks.
Week 5
In the Eagles’ fifth game, they played against their “cross-town rivals,” the Rock Hill Blue Hawks. The game ended with a score of 49–7, with Prosper winning yet another game.
“Getting to have a team like Rock Hill as our rival school is really an amazing opportunity.” head coach Tyler Moore said. “Its great to see the amount of people that show up to support their school. It’s really a great feeling.”
Week 6
The Eagles played against the Plano Wildcats. They once again left victorious with a score of 48–14. This game was played at Children’s Health Stadium.
Week 7
In week seven, the Eagles were facing one of their biggest challenges of this season, the McKinney Lions.
“My favorite moment from this season has to be the comeback in the second half against McKinney,” Moore said. “I’m proud of the kids for finding a way to win a game that wasn’t easy.”
The Prosper once again took home another victory against McKinney with a score of 29–17, making its winning streak six weeks long.
Week 8
During week eight, the Prosper Eagles lost to the Allen Eagles with a score of 22–7. Allen was the only team in the district to beat Prosper.
“One of the most rewarding practices was the entire Allen week,” Petersen said. “It didn’t play out in the game, but I thought that that was the best week of preparation that we had this whole year.”
Week 9
Week nine was the last home game that Prosper played, facing against the Princeton Panthers. The team ended this game with yet another win, with the score being the highest amount of points that Prosper put up this whole season. They ended the game with a score of 84-41. This means that the Prosper Eagles won every single home game this year.
Week 10
In their final game of districts, Prosper went against the Plano West Wolves. The game ended with a score of 51–10, with the last Prosper victory of the season. This was the final game before playoffs.
Week 11 – Playoffs
The first and final playoff game Prosper played was against the Coppell Cowboys. The Eagles were winning by halftime, but the team began to slip in the second half, eventually losing the lead for the remainder of the game. The game ended with a score of 35–27.
The Prosper Eagles had a successful season, coming second in district and not losing a single home game.
“If I could give myself one piece of advice to my past myself at the start of this season, I would probably say, don’t worry about what others are doing,” Anguiano said. “Don’t worry about other’s success. Just focus on yourself and keep your head down. Keep fighting. Everything that you work for will come to you. You’ve just got to be patient. Just be consistent and put in the work you can do whatever you put your mind to.”
