Faith on the field, and football coach Malcolm Hill tells his story of getting his ‘head in the game.’
Hill’s enthusiasm for football started in elementary school.
“I always watched my dad play and he didn’t actually let me play until I was in like fifth or sixth grade,” Hill said. “His strongest matches began in high school when he had his head in the game constantly.”
Hill said his passion for football heightened once he got out of college. He ‘enhanced’ his perspective on how coaching enlightened his eye on the sport, including watching his players grow, and seek happiness by having a good mindset on the field.
“Outside of the game being fun, I enjoy seeing the journey that it takes the kids through,” Hill said. “So you have opportunities for growth, and it shows you how to handle success and adversity. You can really find out a lot about the kids that you coach, and then seeing them find out a lot about themselves is really special.”
Hill said one teacher left an impact on him in college.
“So in college there was this guy named coach Chris Thurman, and he has kind of planted the seed that’s been there since high school,” Hill said. “I had two really good coaches and a teacher that always told me to make a difference in football.”
Senior Leo Anguiano said Hill’s dedication to the team brings inspiration to the football players and himself personally.
“Coach Hill brings a lot of high energy everywhere he goes,” Anguiano said. “He rally’s us up and brings the hype. Coach Hill inspires me by being an outgoing person and being able to lead a young group of guys.”
Senior Sydney Temple shares her experiences with Hill. Being a trainer, she has great responsibility, so she works with Hill often.
“He’s a very uplifting person, he’s taught everyone how to be happier and more energetic on the field, and how to bring everybody up as well,” Temple said. “He just kind of keeps an eye on everyone, and makes sure everyone is okay. So I say he’s a good leader in that sense.”
Sophomore football player, Will Endicott, expresses the ‘vitality’ that coach Hill drives towards the team during practice.
“He’s energetic and brings energy to the team,” Endicott said “He’s also a really helpful coach who knows what he’s doing, and treats other teams fairly.”
Hill said he sees the miracles that have carried him through football throughout the years. Inserting faith to comply with his success. Leading him to become the coach he is now, leaving his former story behind him.
“I was praying before a game, and I was like God, is this really where I am supposed to be,” Hill said. “And literally when I got done praying and the game was about to start I got chills like all over. And I knew this was exactly what I was supposed to be doing. And I never looked back.”
