Emma Gnidziejko (Freshman), Hailey Baird (Sophomore), and Emily Angrisano (Senior) received awards from the Association of Texas Photography Instructors for their entries in the ATPI 2017 Summer Moments Contest through the popular social media site, Twitter. Winners were announced on Sept. 1.
Emily Angrisano has received two awards from ATPI before and this Summer-themed contest marked her 3rd time entering. She received first place for this contest. For her summer moment, Emily submitted a picture of her cousin Oa.
While on a trip to visit family in Alabama, in her grandparent’s backyard with her young cousins, she noticed Oa’s excitement as the kids fed the geese on the lake. Emily caught that moment when she snapped a photo.
“It was very exciting to win. It’s so cool that professional photographers thought a picture I took really captured the feeling of summer,” said Angrisano. “I hope to submit again, and although I don’t plan on doing photography as a career, it will always be a hobby of mine that I enjoy to do on the side.”
Hailey Baird received an honorable mention for a photo of her friend, Shianne, in Gunter’s football stands as they messed around with her camera. “It was insanely hot and pretty miserable, but the photos were worth the heat,”Baird said.
She expressed similar feelings with Emily over the acknowledgment of her photography.
“It was a nice feeling to place in a contest because it’s recognition of the work I’ve created,” Baird said. “It’s a great way to get exposure and something great to put on applications and resumes.”
Hailey hopes to study Fashion Photography in college and pursue it as a career. She is currently busy taking portraits, family photos, couple photos, and doing some commercial work for SAVI Controls.
Emma Gnidziejko received an honorable mention for a photo of her friends Jaiden and Katie at the beach, as well as a silhouette photo of her sister. She took the photos over her spring break and summer break in Cape San Blas and Seaside Florida.
“The photos were mostly just for fun and memories, but I liked them and wanted feedback, so I decided to submit them,” Gnidziejko said, “It boosted my confidence and helped me to know that other people also enjoyed my photos.”
The girls all have their award titles placed on Mrs. Oglesbee’s “Awesomeness” Wall of Fame and are recognized by the Association of Texas Photography Instructors on their website.
