Wrestling teams make top rankings at state
In the 6A State Championship, the boys wrestling team, which included one state champion, placed 11th overall, and the girls team placed 19th. The competition was at Berry Center, Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District, and the first round started at 8:30 a.m., Feb. 21. The Eagle wrestlers went against 89 teams at the 6A meet. Last year, the highest placing wrestler was John Richardson, who placed sixth in the 126 pounds weight class.
Senior Rylan Bonds placed as the state champion of the 220-pound weight class. Junior John Richardson took fourth place in the 138-pounds weight class. In the region meet, Bonds and Richardson both placed second in their respective classes.

In the girls division, sophomore Taylor Martinez placed fourth in the 138-pound weight class. Senior Juliana Baugher placed sixth at 128-pound weight class. At the region meet, Martinez was the champion of her weight class, and Baugher placed second.
