Review: Is Disney Plus really worth purchasing? “Yes!”

Wrapped in a blanket, sophomore Kylie York sits watching “Mulan.” York reviewed the highly-anticipated network release by Disney. “I highly recommend getting Disney+,” York said. “It brought back tons of memories, and it’s a great source of entertainment when sitting at home by yourself or with friends. It’ll also introduce you to some good new shows you never knew about.”

Whenever I think of my childhood, the first thing that comes to mind is Disney, specifically Disney Channel and all of its shows and movies. Sometimes I wished I could go back in time and watch them all over again. Thinking about all of my favorite Disney movies like “Pocahontas” and “Mulan” gave me feelings of nostalgia and brought back memories from my early childhood.

Over the past year, the word about “Disney+” went around, a streaming service like Netflix or Hulu, except all Disney movies and shows would be there. I was excited, but didn’t want to get my hopes up too high for nothing. In August, when they announced that Disney would be providing a streaming service sometime within the next year, I was eager to see what kind of shows and movies they’d have.

On November 12th, Disney Plus was released, and by then I wasn’t in a hurry to beg my mom or dad to get me the streaming service. No one I knew had it, so I thought to myself, “It can’t be that good, no ones subscribed yet.” As more and more of my friends began to purchase Disney+, and the media began to review it, I became curious as to what kind of show they had. Was it really as good as the media made it appear?

Throughout social media, I saw pages advertising for Disney Plus. By what the advertisement looked like it, it appeared to be a streaming service that had all of the Disney Channel shows. You can purchase Disney+ alone, which is $6.99 a month or in a bundle package that includes Hulu and ESPN+ for $12.99 a month.

I hesitated to ask my dad, wondering if he should really waste his money on something I wasn’t going to watch. I finally asked him, and we signed up for a free trial and immediately, I was satisfied with my decision.

The app loaded, and before me was all of my favorite childhood shows and movies. Disney+ has every Pixar, Disney Channel Originals, National Geographic, Marvel, and Lucusfilm productions from 1940 to present day. They had every season and every episode of all of the Disney Channel Original shows and almost every Disney movie. I was also pleased to see that they had the first 30 seasons of “The Simpsons.”
