At a United Sound rehearsal, violinist junior Edwin Varghese assists freshman Prahlad Vijayaraghavan in playing the cello. The United Sound program allows students with disabilities to be mentored by fellow students in fine arts. United Sound benefits our orchestra in a way that they can use a skill set they know to give back to the school community, Orchestra director Monika Bartley said. So, it works on leadership skills and communication skills because, with our United Sound students, the same type of communication doesnt always work, and you might have to explain it in a different way. It really makes our students think outside the box.
