Wearing their first place medals, seniors Eliana Hamilton, Giovanni Spampinato, Micheal Soler, freshman Rocco Spampinato and adviser Micheal Logan stand as they are honored for their animated films placement. Their film Lift competed in the UIL Academic Young Filmmakers Championship and received first place in the 6A Traditional Animation category. I fully anticipate that this animation will be recognized at high school film festivals across the nation and maybe the world, Logan said. I am extremely proud of all of the hard work by this (senior student) trio in my class, along with Rocco, and I couldnt be happier.

With a National Speech and debate Association District Qualifier plaque in hand, junior James Kim stands with his teammates – freshman Aaditya Ananth, junior Jamie Obala, junior Kaya Miller, sophomore Avery Parker and junior Sasha Zhindon, after the congress district tournament. Legislators have introduced and enacted bills in Texas and around the nation centering around LGBT+ individuals that would limit or ban gender affirming care. The latest Texas bills followed a directive last year from Texas  Gov. Greg Abbott that compelled child welfare agents to open abuse investigations into parents who allowed their children to receive gender-affirming care. Gender-affirming care has enabled me to have dreams, hopes, ambitions and goals, senior Cole Lee said. By allowing me to transition, my parents saved my life.

Ribs in hand, seniors Richard Brainard and Damian Arevalo lift the hood of the grill as it cooks their next batch. These competitors prepared this food  during a sixth-period practice session on campus. What we just put on the rig was two racks of ribs, which we have double-wrapped in foil, junior Connor Gil said. A stick of butter – sliced up, some super-fancy apple juice, and a can of coke that melts, gets hot and makes steam, and it goes back into the ribs to make them super moist. The Prosper Pitt Masters, currently holding the No. 2 ranked brisket in the high school barbecue circuit, will attend competitions March 31-April 1 in Mansfield and May 5-7 in Round Rock.
