Writing her Writer of the Year entry for the NSPA contest, rising senior Gabriella Winans sits at her desk. This will be Winans third year writing for the newspaper. I’ve talked to people states away, and it’s allowed me to grow in ways I never expected, Winans said. I believe that just listening to people share their stories can allow you a glimpse into their lives, a walk in their shoes — even if it’s a short one.

Sitting in the bed of his truck for his senior pictures, senior Joshua Walker smiles. Walker plans to follow in his cousins footsteps, who is a sergeant and infantryman in the United States Marines, by joining the service himself after graduation on Saturday, May 22. My cousin has always been very motivating towards me and spoke highly of the Marine Corps and all it has to offer, so I decided I wanted to challenge myself to earn the title, Walker said. Because if not me then who, and if not now then when?

Working with her fellow Girl Scouts, Girl Scout Carsyn Overstreet holds the drill. After buying the supplies, the girls built the Little Free Library together and installed it on Tuesday, April 27. “The premise that the girl initially got started with was to reduce, reuse, recycle,” Girl Scout leader Kalli Overstreet said. “They came up with a ton of different options and one was to reuse books, since we all had books. We got in contact with the local neighborhood here, and the HOA and it just kinda spawned.”

The Jimbos Pizza sign hangs on the wall on the stage. One of the owner, Dago Rodriguezs, close friends made this sign for him. I came to Jimbos for pizza and left with a life long friend, customer Ben Jones said. Something I learned later was his pizza was how he gets everyone to do what he wants. Standing in shock, junior Danielle Walls is crowned with the title of Teen Miss Princess of America at the Princess of America national beauty pageant in November 2020. This was only Walls second time competing in a beauty pageant. I still think about it every single day, Walls said. I get butterflies just talking about it because it was one of the best experiences of my life.

I got involved in AVP during sophomore year, and Ive just kind of been going from there, Asuncion said. Ive met and worked with amazing people, been allowed to flex my creativity to an unprecedented degree, and been given the chance to send films Ive worked on to national film festivals.
