The Prosper Mighty Eagle Band competed against some of the top 5A and 6A competitors in the DFW area, including last year’s BOA San Antonio Grand Champion Flower Mound HS, BOA Grand National finalists Keller and Keller Central High Schools, and the recent 5A State Honor Band Waxahachie High School at the Birdville ISD Marching Contest on Saturday, Sept. 24.

During the competition, the band watched other high school bands perform their shows throughout the day.

“I thought it was really educational and fun,” Jessica Pippert said. “It helped us get into the competition season and helped us realize what competing really is about.”

Not only is the band watching other bands, they’re also watching the Color Guard perform and dance on the field.

“I really liked it because it made me see how other color guards perform, what their face can look like, what kind of dance routines they’ve done, and I just find it very unique,” Color Guard member Gabby Flores said.

The Prosper Band placed first place in class 5A, sweeping caption awards for Best Percussion, Best Color Guard, Best Visual Performance, and Best General Effect.

The band finished second overall in Visual, second in General Effect, second in Percussion, fourth in Color Guard and fourth Overall for combined 5A and 6A.

“I think it boosts our self confidence, if we didn’t win then we might feel down,” Izzy Holman said.

With Prosper’s achievements, the band beat Waxahachie, a band well-known for their skill.

“I felt super accomplished to beat Waxahachie, they’ve won state, it was a feeling of ‘wow, we have our name out there now’,” Gabby Flores said.

“I think it boosts our self confidence, if we didn’t win then we might feel down,” Izzy Holman said.
