The Creative Writing Club had its first meeting of the year on October 26. The club is continuing its mission from last year to help inspire and improve the writing of its members.

The club was formed last year by Shawna Day.

“I started the club because nothing like this exists at the school and there is a lot of people at the school who like to write,” Day said. “And there were no place for them to go, so I created it. I like creative writing because I’m a writer myself.”

The club currently meets once a month for thirty minutes. Day hopes that she can get the club to meet more often.

“I would like it to be more often but right now we’re starting with once a month.” Day said. “Plus, kids are just too busy.”

Day believes creative writing is an important skill and even thinks colleges should count it as an English credit.

“Most colleges don’t tack creative writing as an english credit because you have to go through English,” Day said. “I thought English IV and most colleges accepted that, but they don’t.”

Mrs. Day has many future plans for the club.

“I would love to meet more often and go to writing workshops as a club,” Day said. “I would love for me to have a list of contest on my board and I would love to have poetry slams.”
