Prosper didn’t let Carrollton R.L. Turner find the end zone, or a kick a single field goal through the uprights as they took care of business, defeating the Lions 40-0 Friday night. Running back Kaleb Adams put on an absolute show, as he completed the homecoming game with 222 yards rushing and 4 touchdowns. Adams, whose been known for getting off to fast starts in games, rushed for 3 of his 4 touchdowns in the first quarter alone. The Eagles scored all 40 of their points in the first half.

What makes the offense so explosive, is most definitely the rushing attack. To put it into perspective, the Eagles had a whopping 37 rush attempts in comparison to only 7 passing attempts Friday evening. This means that 84% of the offensive plays were rushing attempts. Surprisingly, Prosper wasn’t mixing up the plays against R.L. Turner, which makes the score even more scary. However, if they use this same attack against better teams, opposing defenses will adjust accordingly to stop the run quickly. If the Prosper offense can find balance in their play-calling, this will make opposing defenses uncertain as to if the Eagles are going to run or pass each play. The Prosper offense seems to be dominating with only the run to this point, but if they start to incorporate the pass then it will take their offense to another level.

Keegan Shoemaker and Matt Bramer only completed 3 of their 7 pass attempts, which could cause for some worry if the Eagles want to include the passing game more in future match ups. Although, both quarterbacks have shown promise to the coaching staff with their respective moments throughout this season and last, like the Frisco Liberty game in week 3. I have confidence that both quarterbacks will find their strides, and have a huge games in the future to hopefully lead Prosper to more victories.

The Prosper Eagles and R.L. Turner Lions face off in a game on October 13th, 2017.

As the score suggests, the defense for Prosper held R.L. Turner to 0 points on the night. They ended up forcing 2 interceptions, both of which intercepted by junior standout Devin Haskins. Haskins has impressed in practices, and is finally hitting his stride in his junior year with 3 INT in his last 2 games, one returned for a touchdown. The defense as a unit played amazing, allowing only 112 yards to the R.L. Turner Lions. Even if the offensive side of the ball has been shaky at times this season, the defense has stayed solid with consistency. While we probably don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves, a famous saying lies in the words of “defense wins championships”.

Although he doesn’t play either side of the ball, an unsung hero for Prosper has to be junior kicker Cade York. Like the defense, York has been extremely consistent. Even though he missed 2 field goals Friday, York was perfect in field goal attempts before, including an impressive 47-yard make in week 6. He has also made a reliable 94% of his PAT (Point After Attempts). A key contributor to a winning football team is a great kicker, and Prosper seems to have just that in Cade York.

This win leaves Prosper in a great position. They now have a superb record of 5-1, and are sitting atop of district 14-5A. The Eagles are set to face a tough, and familiar opponent on the road Friday night, McKinney North. The atmosphere is sure to be intimidating, but a true winning football team should be able to overcome anything that comes their way. This game will be a good testament as to if we can expect to still be cheering on the Eagles when it comes playoff time in December.
