Boys basketball won a contest against Lake Dallas Tuesday night, 59-48. Once again, the Eagles were led by the scoring of Zach Wrightsil, as he dropped a team-high 17 points. The game was close at the half when Prosper only held a 2 point lead. However, the Eagles pulled away by outscoring Lake Dallas 19-7 in the 3rd quarter. The game eventually ended with the final score being 59-48 and the Eagles clinching a playoff birth.

Prosper is now in 2nd place in District 14-5A with 2 games left to play. The Eagles are behind the Little Elm Lobos for first place, and sadly it’s now mathematically impossible for Prosper to win the district. Despite this, the Eagles are still headed to the playoffs and have an opportunity to win a state basketball title.

Looking at the team, it’s really hard not to like the boys’ chances to make a deep run in the playoffs. As stated in my previous columns, sophomore Josh Davis and junior Zach Wrightsil have been nothing short of spectacular and are clearly the driving forces that decide games for Prosper. If they catch fire during the playoffs, it will be virtually impossible for other schools to stop the dynamic duo and the team as a whole.

With the win on Tuesday night, everyone involved with the basketball team should be very proud and excited for what they have accomplished this season. Although, the year is hopefully far from over and the team still has plenty of work to do before they call it a season. The last two games will be against Newman Smith and and district leader, Little Elm. The game against the Lobos should be a massive test, and show everyone how Prosper will compete in the playoffs.
